View Full Version : On a scale from 1 to 5, how bad was the Referee in the England vs France game?

Poll will be coming shortly.
I will definitely say a 5, I honestly haven't seen Refereeing that bad since the Chelsea vs Barcelona match in the Champions League all those years ago at Stamford Bridge.
Utterly incompetent doesn't even begin to describe his performance, especially considering the likely winner of the entire tournament was coming out of that game, the Referee should be of a much higher standard.

Apologies to Stevie Wonder fans btw.
Honestly though he really would've done better than the clown that we had.

I've given a 3.
I accept refereeing can be tricky.
However I've lost count now, as it would be most of them, of the matches I felt the referee was of a poor level.
Whether it be in the British leagues or international matches.
The thing about all matches is, the players are selected to go out and win matches.
That means scoring goals.
The simple fact is if you don't you're not going to win.
Despite referees.
I don't know what the answer is as to referees getting it wrong.
However it seems VAR doesn't pick up all too.
As to England I'm afraid Southgates awful decision of in the last 3 minutes of ADDED time substitions and sadly Kane misjudging his second penalty kick.
Didn't show strength from England disappointingly.
I've seen loads of matches where one team has played near perfectly all through.
Then the other team get only ONE break, score a goal and win.
In the end that's all that counts.
Getting the ball in the back of the net.
Even moreso from penalty chances.

Come on he was terrible Nicky.:joker:
As someone that has seen some shocking Referees in the Championship, I don't know if there is one that could hold a candle to this guy in the England vs France match.
And what really does sting is that his constant **** ups during the game really made a difference in the scoreline as that first goal shouldn't have stood.
And let's be honest, it was the biggest and most anticipated match in the Quarter-Finals, so why on earth was the ****test Referee of the entire tournament given that match? The guy looked clueless, and just favoured the "bigger" team, which tbf France are the bigger team.
Imo I would've had no issues if we had lost fair and square like we did to Croatia at the last World Cup, or with Italy in the Euro final.
But this was a disgrace, especially at such a high profile match, he had the worst performance out of everyone.

Tbf I agree with what you're saying Joey, and really we should be talking about England's mistakes during the match in an ideal world.
But there sadly will be doubt on if France would've won the game when really it should've been 1-1 at bare minimum (maybe 2-1 England if Kane had've scored the penalty in the first half if it was given) because of Saka being fouled prior to France's first goal.
And if they win the World Cup, again it leaves a black mark on what's already a controversial World Cup anyway.

going in against the ref and the var who gifted you two penalty's
and still saying they favour france

Because we should've had more.
France were getting away with being really aggressive.

The Referee himself gave us one penalty, and he only gave that because it was right in front of his face, so he had to give it otherwise he'd have been at risk of losing his job.
Ironically the penalty that he gave us was probably the only thing that he got correct the entire game.
And in fairness to France, he missed an obvious push on Mbappe from Sterling near the end of the game as well.
The guy was a joke, who missed obvious fouls.
