[A picture of the Morrisons' 7kg The Best
Organic Bronze Turkey serving eight to 12 people
went viral on Reddit yesterday]

I understand it is pure Free Range
but the price is crazy.

['This is also a huge bird. £20 a kilo for good
quality meat isn't all that crazy.

'If I was paying that much I would prefer
to go through a butcher I trust,
but that's just me.]

I wonder what the equivalent price was last year.

I thought £27.99 was expensive enough when I bought an "extra-large" one on Tuesday.

Quail, goose, duck and grouse are other meats that are a lot tastier than turkey, to be honest. I do love my turkey but if I had to put a particular occasion/time of year on it it would be October (thanksgiving traditions from the States might have something to do with it). For Christmas you might as well just go with whatever meat you fancy/tastes better to you. It don't have to be turkey every year.

It's not goose or even duck, nor is Morrisons Waitrose (as nice as it is in its own right). How are they going to be selling a meat that's going to end up dry on the Christmas table for £150?

Alot less.

But this year Bird Flu
has made all stock worse.

But some farmers are feeding their Turkeys
Quality Feed
So Organic means well above your standard stock.

It's a bit mad but.... it's a "luxury version" so it's not like anyone has to buy it. It's no more "crazy" than a £100 bottle of wine or a £500 bottle of Whisky .

We're just getting a big ol' chicken this year though. Usually do Turkey but it's just 5 of us this year and you suddenly realise --- everyone whose going to be there prefers chicken (and gammon which will also be on) and the only reason you're getting a turkey at all would be "cos it's Christmas". Pointless really.

many people don't like turkey, i can take it or leave it. I thought the original reason turkey was the bird of choice for Christmas was that it was big and cheap.

Many of tibb arent old enough to remember life before freezers, but at that time we ate turkey every day from Christmas to New Year and that tests anyones love for turkey, believe me

Wild/smoked turkey and turkey-wings are where it’s really at. The trouble with talking about any of it online is that it takes about 12 years to convince the stupid auto-correct thingy (if you tend to type from your mobile, like me) that turkey isn’t invariably a country (it always wants to capitalise the T and it’s annoying).

[Morrisons sells huge Christmas turkey
for £136 - more than the cost
of a flight to Istanbul]

[The 15lb organic bird in the ‘Best’ range said
to be big enough to feed 12 people
The label said the bird had been
‘free to forage in open pastures’
It is more than £30 extra than a flight
from Birmingham to Turkey, December, 29
Another shopper spotted it for sale at a
Morrisons store in Sheldon, Birmingham

The bird had been ‘free to forage in open pastures’
and was ‘naturally slower growing for a fuller flavour
and succulent texture’.]
