View Full Version : Dry January
Are you doing it? Have you ever done it?
I'm sort of doing it this year until I go skiing for a few days on the 19th when I'll pause it :hee:
One week down and I am enjoying a Moretti Zero with the football this evening. I never thought I'd do it before but had started cutting down on drinking towards the end of last year anyway so I'm not missing it yet, still early days though
Anyone also have any good recommendations for non alcoholic beers  the Moretti is okay but has a bit of a funny aftertaste

I did make plans to stay dry until the first game of rugby in the 6 nations.
But my local team had a big game today to stay top of div 2.
The wheels are off...:dance::dance:

No. January (after my birthday) is a depressing-enough month as it is.

I'm doing dry Jan.....was considering veganuary too but decided against that. I've not bothered with non alcoholic substitutes....just been drinling loads of water. No plans this weekend though....might be different when I'm out next weekend

Might be less depressing if you're healthier at the end of it :hee:

Good stuff :clap2:
Veganuary is certainly one bridge I would not cross, although I am trying to have less red meat

Depending on how you drink it can take up to 10 days to flush out your system
maybe 14 for annie

My son was definitely not having it and too much hassle to cook 2 different meals every night so we are just healthy eating
Good luck with it

I have been massively cutting down on drink for over a year or so now anyway, I don't completely avoid it . But when I drink .... it's just occasionally .

Lucky you having your own.
I've been peering through windows all week at bottle after bottle, each one saying, "just smash the window and save me"
Nearly did it twice...but stayed proffesional.

I realise I didn't have a drink over the holidays, my OH only had a couple of beers, as I recall. I might have January off the Ketamine.
Would normally go to the pub for a couple Sunday afternoon - today I have cleaned by bathroom and rearranged my cupboard of excess carrier bags :skull:
Least I am now rewarding myself with a can of Lucky Saint which is a very nice alcohol free beer

I have decided to continue until my birthday - quite enjoyed the sobriety and feeling great every morning
Obviously I reserve the right to change my mind

I honestly thought that this thread was about the weather .. I was just gonna say it’s not stopped raining round our way throughout January

I actually have quite enjoyed the sobriety too and it's been good for the beer belly. I will have a pint after work today but will generally try to have more sober days I think now I have discovered the wonderful world of alcohol free beer
It's all just good intentions of course though
Haven't touched a drop of alcohol in years, don't miss it at all, certainly don't miss the horrible hangovers

I think I'd manage that too, don't eat Pizza very much :p Never shop bought and very very rarely get it as a Take Away because it doesn't agree with Gav.

I've not had a drink in more than 3 weeks now. My energy levels have gone up 10 fold. And i've been a million times more productive.
And yes, those hangovers. So nice to wake up and feel fresh

I think the last alcohol I had was a wee mulled wine at Christmas so turns out I've succeeded at this challenge without even knowing it was a challenge! I'm less of an avid teetotaller than I was a few years back, but I still don't drink often at all... just not part of my life these days I guess .
Can't do the pancake challenge as my kids would go ham if we didn't do pancake day at the end of feb. And I'm not cooking them if I can't have one :fist:.
I'm also not avoiding pizza for a month - that's utter madness.

Is there a particular one you would recommend, sometimes I give Mr C a 0% but he is into it straight off, I bought a bottle of Shiraz 0% and after a sip it went straight down the sink, it was vile :yuk:

The nicest ones were Lucky Saint and Brooklyn I think. Big Drop Paradiso is nice if he likes an IPA
I had the Alcohol-free Estrella in a pub and that was really nice but I've never seen it in shops
Just stay away from Becks Blue
I'm not sure I'd try alcohol free wine :skull:
