You can lower your cholesterol by eating the right foods no drugs necessary
We need a certain amount of "good" cholesterol for our bodies to function correctly. Bad cholesterol is ok when all your bodies other organs are doing their job correctly, but if they aren't and the balance goes off, you want to lower cholesterol levels sharpish, and that can't be achieved overnight by lifestyle/diet change

Another day, another round of "everyday dystopia"!
Statins are not without side effects and once you're on them it can be hard to come off them ... they should only be given to people who are at clear and present risk of stroke, heart attack or cardiovascular disease.
They're going to be handed out like smarties as a prophylactic because the health service is in such a shocking state that currently anyone who does have a stroke or heart attack is at severely increased risk of permanent disability or death, due to the lack of ambulance capacity, A&E capacity, and general hospital bed availability.
"Sorry, we don't have a functioning emergency health service so just take these pills and don't bother us."
It's absolutely ****ing insane.

A better idea would be to teach people how to eat properly for the problems they have. Or.... they could throw pills at more than a third of the population and then wonder why the NHS is broke.

Tbf at my Surgery Patients are guided towards a change of lifestyle and eating if their cholesterol levels are heading that way.
