View Full Version : The Sit-Com thread and other comedy series thread
Now it may or may not be common knowledge but I abhor British sit-coms / comedy series apart from the odd one like PLEBS or Friday Night Dinner .
Some of the ones I’ve been dipping into recently include
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Schitt's Creek

Schitts creek is my favourite American/Canadian Sitcom. Fr. Ted is my favourite Irish Sitcom.
Would you consider The Office or afterlife as sitcoms? If so those are my favourite of the British

I just don’t get this kind of ‘humour’ tbh
Falling through the bar gap and the chandelier sketch were witty rather than humerus

The Good Place is decent as well ( US sitcom)

Yeah, really not my cup of tea either.
Not sure if you'd class Resident Alien as a Sitcom either (probably not) but it's hilarious as well

I just feel that the yanks write funnier stuff , the acting is better .. better all round really
I guess they have a massive population though and logically they will have far more excellent writers / actors …

This Country, The Royal Family, Early Doors, Two Doors Down, Gimme Gimme Gimme, Dinner ladies and Ideal are all must watches
The difference is American comedy is about the optimistic American dream, whereas British is dark reality.
The American comedy actor wants to play the hero whilst the British comedy actor wants to play the failure. We're better at laughing at ourselves.
We can get humour out of awkwardness, whilst the Americans find that cringy. We also don't over analize every little thing and take it too seriously, we're much more laid back.

It's sad that Comedy seems to have died in the US over the last few years.

Hooray for Harold Lloyd
I used to watch this when I was very little. Used to be on every night around tea time on BBC 2. I must have been about 4 or 5 but I can remember it. Must have been my earliest introduction to a comedy show.

To tell a lie I did also like Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
But Parks & Recreation was probably my last 10/10 Comedy from America.

Jeeves and Wooster ain't really a show from which you can pick "funny moments" because it's stories with funny bits, if that makes sense?
Anyway, here's one of my favourite episodes.
