AN independence campaign group of genuine nutters has branded the language
used by Nicola Sturgeon in her resignation letter to the King as “deeply
disturbing”.

In her letter, the former first minister signed off by saying: “I have the honour
to be, Sir, Your Majesty's humble and obedient servant."

Sturgeon also wrote it had been “my pleasure to serve Your Majesty, Her
Majesty the Queen and the people of Scotland”.

All Under One Banner (AUOB) took to social media to condemn the language in
the letter and said it should be a “heads up” to self-declared republican and
incoming first minister Humza Yousaf, who was selected by the Scottish
Parliament on Tuesday afternoon.

In all seriousness though I agree with their stance - they're not taking a particular side on what the outcome of a debate around the GRR should be ... they're lamenting the fact that the SNP have taken a "no debate" stance and sent away academics, professionals and organisations (not just Twitter rabble) with real concerns, with a dismissive wave of the hand. It just generates more distrust and anger.

Humza Yousless instead of appointing a Transport secretary he has appointed a junior transport minister who cannot drive. He has also appointed a minster of independence on £100k a year.

A Cabinet minister – such as Neil Gray – will get £116,759, as Cabinet Secretary for Wellbeing, Economy, Fair Work and Energy and what that is i have no clue.

user104658

"Independence minister" is a ludicrous appointment tbh.

To be fair though I imagine most Transport stuff related to public transport rather than roads, so "not being able to drive" is potentially a plus. Better to have a minister for public transport who actually uses public transport.

My wife had to take her car in for MOT today and get a bus home ... I think it's going to take her a while to get over the trauma.

Ms Sturgeon yesterday said scurrilous social media gossip had prompted her
to want more anonymity.

In particular, she shot down online claims that she was the proud owner of
an expensive global property portfolio, as well as being a 'secret lesbian'.

In one account often repeated on the internet, users say she engaged in an
extra-marital relationship with a female French diplomat.

Some of the rumours allege the pair bought tennis legend Judy Murray's old

A nationalist MSP caused an innocent woman to be investigated for a hate crime after she wrongly claimed opponents
of Nicola Sturgeon’s gender self-ID laws had booked her a “malicious” bikini wax.

Karen Adam, who represents Banffshire and Buchan Coast for the SNP, complained in December that she had been a
victim of abuse and intimidation after she received an unsolicited confirmation for an intimate salon appointment.

She publicly blamed critics of self-ID laws for making a booking “focused on my genitals” at the same time that a
crunch Holyrood debate on the controversial gender laws was due to take place.

However, the Telegraph understands that it took a police probe to find out that the incident was the result of an
innocent mix-up at the Edinburgh salon.

A woman with a very similar name to Ms Adam had tried to make a genuine appointment and the MSP got the
confirmation email, in what police sources confirmed was an “administrative error”.

Critics of Ms Adam said her reaction to receiving the email, which she also wrote about at length in a national
newspaper column, exposed her “absurd persecution complex” and raised doubts over whether she was clever enough
to be an MSP.

Conservative strategists plan to hand Labour a free run at reclaiming its former
urban strongholds while they target rural constituencies

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/content/dam/politics/2023/04/03/TELEMMGLPICT000330745669_trans_NvBQzQNjv4BqRo0U4xU-30oDveS4pXV-Vv4Xpit_DMGvdp2n7FDd82k.jpeg?imwidth=500

Humza Yousaf faces a Unionist pincer movement at the next general election,
under Scottish Tory plans to relentlessly target rural voters while handing
Labour a free run at reclaiming its former urban strongholds.

“We think it’s wrong to say that only Labour will benefit from the turmoil in
the SNP,” a Tory source said. “We’re going to hammer the point that we are
the only party that understands rural Scotland and will defend it.

“Seats changing hands between the SNP and Labour in the central belt
doesn’t really concern as, as neither will back a Tory prime minister.

“We’re not going to bust a gut in places we have no chance. Our resources
will be targeted at seats we know we can win.”

A series of Scottish Government policies backed by the Greens, such as new
marine protection areas which will effectively ban fishing, are set to be
relentlessly attacked by the Tories.

Rachael Hamilton, rural affairs spokesman for the Scottish Tories, said: “The
fact that the rural affairs brief was used as a political ploy to force Kate
Forbes to the backbenches tells you all that you need to know about Humza
Yousaf’s interest in rural Scotland.

Encourage unionists to vote Labour
There were reports on Monday that the Tories would encourage Unionist
voters to back Labour in some constituencies in a bid to “end nationalist
dominance”.

it's no small incident ......

There is currently police activity at the couple's home in Glasgow and at SNP headquarters in Edinburgh.

There are 10 uniformed officers stationed outside the former first minister's home, alongside one police vehicle and an incident tent in the front garden.

The curtains and blinds remained drawn and there was no sign of anyone in the property.

Meanwhile, two police officers were posted outside SNP HQ and there were other officers inside.

At least six marked police vehicles were parked outside the building.

An SNP spokesperson said: "Clearly it would not be appropriate to comment on any live police investigation but the SNP have been cooperating fully with this investigation and will continue to do so.

Questioning Humza Yousaf’s competence is ‘racist’, says SNP MSP

People who question the competence of Scotland’s new First Minister by
calling him “useless” are racists, an SNP MSP has claimed.

Karen Adam, who loudly backed Humza Yousaf’s successful bid to succeed
Nicola Sturgeon, said that he was already being targeted with “racist tropes”
that were “utterly disgusting”.

However, in her column in the pro-independence newspaper The National, MZ
Adam claimed that the new First Minister had been unfairly criticised since
he announced his leadership bid because of the colour of his skin.

Ms Adam went on to call on “white allies” to “call out” the attacks on Mr
Yousaf, claiming she feared the “misogyny Nicola endured” had “now flipped
to racism towards Humza”.

Opponents insisted that attacks on Mr Yousaf, who was born in Glasgow to
immigrants from Pakistan and Kenya, were based on his performance in
government roles. (YA THINK?)

The firm that audits the SNP's finances has resigned, the BBC has learned.

Accountants Johnston Carmichael, which has worked with the party for more than a decade, said the decision was taken after a review of its client portfolio.

By law, the party has until 7 July to present their accounts to the Electoral Commission or face possible sanctions.

It comes after police investigating the party's finances searched the home of former SNP chief executive Peter Murrell - Nicola Sturgeon's husband.

He was arrested on Wednesday and later released without charge.

A spokesperson for the SNP said they were in the process of finding a replacement firm.

A furious Nicola Sturgeon ordered the SNP’s ruling body to stop asking
questions about the party’s finances shortly after police started investigating
them, it has been alleged.

Insiders said the then first minister tried to quash questions from the party’s
national executive committee (NEC) about £600,000 that had been raised
from supporters to fight a new independence referendum campaign.

Ms Sturgeon was said to have told the recorded meeting in August 2021, a
month after police launched an investigation: “We don’t need to talk about
the finances. The finances are absolutely fine.”

The Sunday Mail reported that a “raging” Ms Sturgeon warned the NEC
members that raising the issue “was undermining the party” and made clear
“it shouldn’t be discussed”.

Sources also alleged that Peter Murrell, her husband and the SNP’s former
chief executive, was behind the shortened timetable for the party leadership
contest to succeed her.

Although the party has insisted that Lorna Finn, the national secretary, was
in charge of the process, insiders said that Mr Murrell was in “complete
control”.

Trans paedophile praises Nicola Sturgeon’s gender reforms

Katie Dolatowski, who preyed on girls in supermarket toilets, said former FM
was ‘great’ and echoed SNP defences of the controversial bill

The attacker, who despite being born a boy called Lennon has spent time in
Cornton Vale women’s jail where the rapist Isla Bryson was also initially sent,
expressed dismay when Ms Sturgeon announced her shock resignation in
February.

Under a new identity of Alyanna McKenna, which Dolatowski has been
referred to as in court documents, the 22-year-old wrote: “Nicola was a great
First Minister, it's a shame that people are trying to make out as some evil
person.”

Two days after the former First Minister announced her resignation, Dolatowski tweeted “I will miss Nicola Sturgeon.
It’s a shame she’s leaving”.

The offender also parroted a series of SNP politicians’ defences of the
controversial gender Bill, which was blocked by the UK Government.

Under the alias, Dolatowski also defended the Scottish Prison Service over
the Bryson scandal and backed Humza Yousaf to replace Ms Sturgeon,
branding Kate Forbes a “fake feminist”.

‘I know I’m not a threat to anyone’

Dolatowski also posted online about the issue of trans people using
bathrooms. She wrote on April 1: “I know trans women aren’t a threat if I
use the bathroom.”

Dolatowski said on March 27 “I know I’m not a threat to anyone” and told
those who did not feel safe: “Don’t use public bathrooms.”

In 2018 Dolatowski sexually assaulted a 10-year-old girl in a Kirkcaldy
supermarket toilet and filmed a 12-year-old girl on the toilet at a separate
supermarket.

Scotland's first minister has said he only discovered the SNP had bought a luxury motorhome after he became party leader.

Humza Yousaf said he was shown a police warrant to seize items from the party, which included the vehicle.

The motorhome was seized from outside a property in Dunfermline last week.

Party sources are reported to have said it was intended to be used as a "campaign battle bus" ahead of the last Holyrood election in 2021.

They told the Daily Record that it would have acted as a "mobile campaign room" if Covid restrictions prevented other forms of mixing, but was never used.

Mr Yousaf was asked during a visit to a Glasgow nursery school when he first learned that the party had bought the Niesmann + Bischoff vehicle, which can retail for more than £100,000.

He replied: "Shortly after I became leader of the party".

The first minister said: "The police of course give us a warrant for items that they are looking to take in their possession.

"I can't go into the detail of that but of course the police have done the responsible thing and I as leader have seen the warrant in terms of the items that they've confiscated, including the motorhome that you referenced."

The Mail on Sunday reported at the weekend that the vehicle had been parked outside the home of Peter Murrell's 92-year-old mother since January 2021. Mr Murrell is married to Nicola Sturgeon, and was until recently the SNP's chief executive.

It was said to have been taken away on the same day that officers searched Ms Sturgeon and Mr Murrell's home in Glasgow, and the SNP's headquarters in Edinburgh. Mr Murrell was arrested before later being released without charge.

Police are thought to be investigating what happened to funds left to the SNP in supporters' wills, as the probe into the party's finances deepens.

Officers from Police Scotland are looking into £400,000 worth of bequests from recent years, including some which the Electoral Commission (EC) were informed of.

Specialist investigators are looking into exactly how the money left to Scotland's governing party was spent.

It comes after claims of financial mismanagement within the SNP dating back over the last five years.

If it wasn’t for bad luck, Humza Yousaf would have no luck. After hobbling over
the line in a brutal SNP leadership election, his tenure was instantly plunged
into chaos by a police probe into the party’s finances.

Now a nightmare poll suggests he is unpopular with both SNP voters and the
general public, and that the party is losing support among those in favour of
independence. Before Sturgeon quit, three-quarters of independence
supporters planned to vote SNP, a figure which is now below two-thirds.
Yousaf’s net favourability (29 per cent) is the same as Rishi Sunak’s, while his
net unfavourability (41 per cent) is just two points behind that of Scottish
Tory leader Douglas Ross.

The poll was commissioned by Scottish public affairs consultancy True North.
Rather awkwardly, True North is headed up by Fergus Mutch, Sturgeon’s
former chief spin doctor, and Geoff Aberdein, who was chief of staff to Alex
Salmond. Appearing today on the Holyrood Sources podcast of which
Aberdein is co-host, Professor Sir John Curtice gave a bracing assessment of
Yousaf’s polling performance:

"The SNP is losing the support of people who believe in
independence. The truth is that we are looking at a situation where a political
institution is in trouble, even though the cause for which it’s in favour isn’t in
trouble… Whatever was Nicola Sturgeon’s intention in resigning as leader she
has created a sequence of events whereby support for the SNP has gone
down."

Sir John Added

"In electing Humza Yousaf the SNP have created political
difficulties for themselves. For good or ill Mr Yousaf is not popular not just
within the wider Scottish public but the supporters. Only 45 per cent of 2019
SNP voters say they think favourably of him and this echoed what the opinion
polls were saying during the course of the leadership contest itself."

If Kate Forbes is working to bring down Humza Yousaf, she’s not doing half as
good a job as Humza Yousaf himself.

Nicola Sturgeon has said she is certain she has done nothing wrong after appearing in public for the first time since her arrest last Sunday.

Scotland's former first minister told journalists she intended to be back in the Scottish Parliament this week.

Ms Sturgeon was questioned for more than seven hours as part of a police investigation into the SNP's finances.

She temporarily moved out of her Glasgow home after being released without charge.

The SNP's new auditors have flagged up an issue with its accounts, the party has revealed.

Its treasurer said the SNP was still on track to file the necessary paperwork with the Electoral Commission on time.

But he said one "qualification" has been made by the auditors because of missing documents.

The accounts will note that the original records for some cash and cheques had not been retained for the current and prior financial years.

The records relate to membership, donations and raffle income.

The auditors will state in the accounts: "We have been unable to satisfy ourselves by alternative means regarding the completeness of income in respect of the above limitation in scope.

"Consequently we are unable to determine whether any adjustment to income is necessary in the current or prior year and the potential impact on opening reserves accordingly."

Criminalising the users only exacerbates the issues (this is proven), the focus needs to be on the dealers (as in the high-profit, high-level drug trade, not the local corner dealer who are ten a penny) and also on the socioeconomic factors contributing to "junkie culture".

Arresting or charging a heroin addict for heroin possession is a complete waste of time and resources. It achieves literally nothing.

It does and that's what I meant on the other page - possession already basically is decriminalised. Police aren't going to arrest someone carrying a "little bit" of any class A drug that's clearly for them to use themselves. If they're carrying a sack of it and obviously intending to supply/sell then yes.

Even then though I still say the resources should be going towards tackling it properly at the top level - the big distributors in the cities, the van-loads being ferried out to other towns. Or better yet... the boats before it even gets into the country, because it's not being grown in a Glasgow high-rise.

And again of course, happy kids from happy homes don't end up on smack. So there's that.

Nicola Sturgeon has been slammed for expensing a gratuitous farewell tour after she announced her intention to resign as First Minister of Scotland.

Following her surprise announcement, which came just weeks before it emerged the Scottish police fraud squad was investigating the SNP, Ms Sturgeon embarked on a goodbye tour of TV studios, including Loose Women.

It has now emerged Ms Sturgeon billed the taxpayer both for a business class flight and a hotel room costing more than £500 per night.

The luxury trip was booked despite rules saying ministers must make "cost-effective travel arrangements" and must be "consistent with ministers' commitment to reduce emissions".

That same night, one of Ms Sturgeon's ministers also paid a visit to London but managed to find accommodation for less than a fifth the price of his boss's £515 room.

Scottish Tory MSP Annie Wells said taxpayers will find the revelations "utterly galling".

She said: "The former First Minister should have set an example and kept costs of her trip - which included another visit to appear on Loose Women - to a minimum.

"The fact that she also thought it appropriate to take a short and costly business class flight to London also flies in the face of her repeatedly asking the Scottish public to do their bit to tackle the climate emergency while in high office."

The Taxpayers' Alliance's Jonathan Eida said: "Brits who are having to scrimp and save will not look kindly this flight of fancy".

The poll results come just over a month before what’s seen as a crucial by-
election in Rutherglen and Hamilton West, on the outskirts of Glasgow. But as
one veteran nationalist said: “Folks sense that the skids are under the SNP.”

Labour is pouring activists into the battle, with almost 200 taking part
recently in a mass canvass. Starmer has visited twice, sharing a platform
with Anas Sarwar, his Scottish leader, and a series of shadow cabinet
members will be campaigning there shortly. Former senior party strategist
and spin maestro Peter, now Lord, Mandelson, has also made the trip north.

SNP rejects using next election as 'de facto' referendum on independence

The SNP will not use the next general election as a de facto independence referendum, in a shift away from the strategy employed by Nicola Sturgeon.

Humza Yousaf, the SNP's current leader and the first minister of Scotland, backed the switch away from his predecessor's position.

He said using the next general election as a de facto referendum for independence is the "wrong approach" to take.

So when they had the semblance of credibility, the elections were a de-facto referendum. Not they haven't, they aren't.

Coincidence, I'm sure.

I struggle to name anything tangible that the SNP have delivered in recent years, I think it's time they go. I don't know who I'd vote to replace them but they've just settled into this fairly meaningless centre ground where Nicola Sturgeon's main accomplishment and purpose was to deliver zippy zingers about Westminster politicians, which was entertaining but she could do that on a late night comedy panel show. Humza Yousaf... has inherited the leadership and there's no platform to speak of. I'd be stunned if they are re-elected.

I think you can assume that anyone who votes SNP is vaguely pro-independence... however, the inverse isn't true - you can't assume that everyone who is pro-independence will vote SNP. And for various reasons (not in any way related to the independence debate) the number of pro-indy Scots who can stomach voting SNP is reducing.

This stance from them... just proves that they know it.

I'm still more or less pro-indy (although I think it now matters less than it did - we missed the boat timings wise) however I find it very difficult to mark the SNP box these days.

What they really need to do is move independence away from politics to gain traction, but of course, that's just not possible

At least away from party-politics, but as you say it's impossible. It's too tied up with espatblished politics, class, royalty, sectarianism... all sorts of complex things outside of all it should be about (economic viability/prosperity).
