['Anxious' wolf pack euthanised after death
of leader at Camperdown
Wildlife Centre in Dundee
Camperdown Wildlife Centre in Dundee
has been closed to members of the public
on Wednesday following the death
of alpha male wolf Loki and his pack of wolves.]

[A pack of wolves has been euthanised
at a wildlife centre following the death
of their leader.
Camperdown Wildlife Centre in Dundee
said the alpha male wolf Loki had
to be put down after developing
complications following an operation.

It said four other wolves began to
exhibit "unusually anxious and
abnormal behaviour" after Loki's procedure.

A decision was then made to euthanise
those wolves too.

In a statement on Monday, a spokesperson
said the team was "absolutely heartbroken"
and the action was taken as a "last resort".]

I would have given them a chance

Seems a very sudden decision

It does only a week after the operation to their leader, would think they might be giving time to adapt

I didn't know there actually were any wolves in Scotland

Maybe it’s because the pack was so small ..or they were attacking each other. And causing injury ..

the wolves would have been fighting amongst themselves to pick the new leader. If there wasn't a wolf that was obviously superior, they may have been taking chunks out of each other. Also, they may have gone into overdrive protecting territory and been a real danger to anything that came close.

We tend to think that a wolf is just a big dog, but their jaw pressure is orders of magnitude greater than a rotty or a pitbull, so they are absolutely lethal

Sounds like this ‘idea’ of reintroducing wolves wasn’t thought through anywhere near thoroughly enough

Its a very brutal decision ~ hope there is a detailed reason for shooting them all and it had better be good.
