[HMV now stocks pop culture merchandise
and music technology in its "new concept" stores]

That's better than the USA sweet shop
that took it over

Reported on BBC1HD London News

[Doug Putnam, Sunrise Records' owner of HMV,
said the "new concept" stores were "really working".

He added new stores would also open
in Europe in 2023, which would be a
"launchpad for an exciting new era for HMV".]

[Canadian entrepreneur Mr Putman, 34,
bought the retail chain Sunrise Records in 2014.
He previously bought HMV's Canadian business in 2017,
expanding his small chain into a
national operation with 80 outlets.]

To be fair, based on that screenshot it may as well be Forbidden Planet. Where's all the music?

(Apart from the cd the customer has)

They still do loads of CDs and records but they obviously needed to diversify to stay alive

I do actually still buy CDs and love going to HMV

I used to buy CDs up until I changed my car last time but my new car has no CD player so it's a bit pointless now

I do have a record player at home though so I buy Records still

I didn't want to buy one for the house, I have plenty of other ways to listen to music there, it'd only be taking up more space and gathering dust

Oxford Street Mega Store
has a small stage inside the Big store.
Madness Band
are appearing today.

Open Again

[The retailer was rescued from insolvency by
Canadian Doug Putman's Sunrise Records business.

The entrepreneur, who recently attempted to buy
fellow high street chain Wilko from collapse,
told the PA news agency the chain has returned
after striking a better deal with the shop's landlord.

'It is a pretty great moment for us, coming back
here after four years away,' he said.
'When we bought the business, we couldn't keep the
site because the rates bill and rent just didn't
make any financial sense.]

My favourite shops. I used to go there all the time. Glad to see they've reopened.
All the sweet shops have put me off central London.
One/two is ok, but why so many?
And they always play very loud music :fist:

Yes
Central Oxford Street

was crazy.

Glad Canadian owner Doug Putnam
is there in HMV today to meet the legendary band
Madness.
