I'm choosing to concentrate on King Charles. He was always going to be king, as the son of the late queen Elisabeth.
But Camilla is not my queen, never will be.
Kate!

I have a lot of love for Diana still, and also Kate, but I don't think either of them should or should have been known as the Queen either. They are consorts.

Well yes because she literally is.
Queen Consorts are queens.

I like Duchess Kate, I think she's wonderful.
She does remind me of Diana in many ways.
I think she would be very proud of her.

Absolutely, it’s great for all women that she and those that come after her will be known as queens
The more women as treated as equals the better the world will be

She is really lovely. Has the same appeal as Di did. Camilla is a sour faced madam. Her face was tripping her at that concert, she looked bored sh1tless.

So are you saying had Diana been in Camilla's place you would have disagreed??
I would just like to re-iterate what i said on this subject previously. I don't need to call either Charles or Camilla anything. I think terms like king, queen and their majesties have no place in today's society. I'm never going to meet them personally so it's never going to be an issue for me. What anyone else chooses to call them is up to them, but count me out from showing them any respect other than as fellow human beings
I wouldn't call Sunak Prime Minister either. The only one I will ever think of using, is your honour to a judge, as it would go a long way to keeping me out of jail
Glenn.

Camilla isn’t queen.
To be annoyed that Kate will be is peculiar and extremely dumb. She is married to the heir. She will be queen. And if William dies, she will be queen mother.
I can understand the dislike of camilla but as boring and unremarkable as Kate is, she will be queen.
Livia
08-05-2023, 12:48 PM
Yes, it is.
Seems strange to me that we're having this discussion on other people's morality. Who will judge this? Whose morals are so intact that they can judge? Not me....

The question is, is it morally right.
The only answer can be really is yes.
Morally, legally and constitutionally right.
Because it is the new King's decision to make and he has.
Personal feelings for or against are immaterial.
So yes it's morally right.

Im not bothered either way,I do feel a bit sorry for her though, some of the names she gets called are awfully unkind, I kind of warmed to her when she was a good friend of Paul O Gradys and is an ambassador for battersby dogs home and have seen that she is a very kind lady,I loved Diana too,but she has gone we cant change the past and as Ive said before just because someone is beautiful doesnt not make them someone who can do no wrong , behind closed doors and all that

Camilla IS Queen, she was crowned in the ceremony fgs.
And who are you referring to as peculiar and dumb? I never said I was annoyed Kate will be Queen. I like her. I just disagree in general, I think the wives or husbands of the Monarchs should just be Consorts. Full stop.

The concept of royalty and inheritance of titles by birthright (and by extension marriage) is inherently immoral so it's not "morally right" for any of them to be known as any of these titles.
However, taking as given that these titles are going to continue to exist, it's a bit of a fudging of the question as I understand it? The two categories are "Queen Consort" and "Queen Regnant", both of which are types of "Queen". So Elizabeth was Queen Regnant, Camilla is Queen Consort, but both can be referred to in the shorthand as "The Queen".

Well I’ve learnt something then !!
I’ve never heard of Queen Regnant only Queen Regent !!
::::
A queen regnant possesses and exercises sovereign powers, whereas a queen consort or queen regent shares her spouse's and/or child's rank and titles but does not share the sovereignty of her spouse or child.

Do you play chess?
The Queen is the strongest and most useful piece on the board but the game is about killing the King ... the King is still the rimary piece on the board. A skilled enough player can win a game of chess even if they lose their queen half way through the game. Probably not against a very good/evenly matched player, but a professional player would likely still easily beat an average player even if they started with NO queen at all.
I suppose you could modernise the game by letting the player pick which piece takes each role? An interesting twist :joker:.

I know the basics and even then I always relied very heavily on the Queen

As regards your idea about choosing which piece plays which role .. I’m thinking you could spice things up by each having two all-powerful Queens !!

You can promote pawns to queens so, technically, you could have up to 9 queens. Realistically more than 2 or 3 seems unlikely

If you get a pawn all the way across the board you can promote it, gaining a 2nd queen is a quite common tactic. I guess you could call one Liz and one Camilla

Before chess came to Europe there was no queen, the piece was the king's advisor but its moves were more restricted. The queen was introduced to Europe in the 15th century and it's believed the queen was made a powerful figure because of European queens at the time and their power struggles. That's how I understand it at least.

That's quite interesting actually Livia :hee:. It does make sense in terms of how the game is played, that the "King" is really just a generic "ruler" (be it king, Queen, Emperor or whatever) and the "Queen" is more like a Game-of-Thrones style "Kingsguard".

Well no, no one in their right mind would swap with Charles but that's not because he's a royal ... it's because by the looks of the adema in his hands, it's highly likely that he has congestive heart failure :umm2:.
I was taking it to mean "the royals" more generally, i.e. William and Kate.
And no I don't think that life is for everyone but to say that NO ONE would swap for it really underestimates just how much cash we're talking about here. A truly staggering level of wealth.
Niamh.

I would love the money don't get me wrong but I know myself I wouldn't deal well with not being able to just go and do my own thing without booking it in, having an entourage of security follow me or else have to sneak around like some criminal or have cameras shoved in my face every where I went or unflattering photos plastered over the internet etc etc I understand the money and opportunities would be great but in other ways it must be quite restrictive and smothering. i feel claustrophobic just imagining it. It's easy for ordinary people and those struggling financially to say "OH boo hoo poor rich people" but you can see a lot of the Royals are really unhappy in their lives too. It is true money can't buy happiness especially when you've never known any other life, it isn't a novelty so it's just their life
its only really a small handful of royals that get any press attention, the rest of them do exactly what they want and still have bags full of cash
Niamh.
