I have sympathy. He's 75. Jail is not the answer.

Seriously though a very tragic situation.

Tragic. Has my full sympathy too if what he's saying is right.
There's nothing worse than seeing a loved one just suffer and suffer until the inevitable (speaking from experience). I wish our euthanasia laws here were changed and there were proper channels here whereby it was possible and fully legal.

If euthanasia isn't going to be legalised, there should be some kind of "mercy kill loophole" when it comes to proven, officially diagnosed cases.
People who mercy-kill critically ill loved ones are obviously not a danger to the public, and increasing the prison population on their behalf achieves nothing.
On the other hand, I don't see it ever going without some form of reprimand. Maybe the answer is being out on parole or something, or a suspended sentence.
he could just be saying it was a mercy kill though. There are registered places in countries in europe where it could have been done legally

I fully agree with you on this.

I hope if it came to it, someone would love me enough to do the same.

So sad.
It’s something that has been discussed between hubby and I, a lovely insulin induced coma is our way out.
You wouldn’t see a loved pet suffer so why on earth do we have to watch family go through it all?

I agree with both and that's really why I think it SHOULD be legal with careful checks and balances in place, as if there was a realistic route to legitimate euthanasia then it would close up that possibility of someone making a false claim like that.
There's absolutely no benefit in keeping someone who has days or weeks to live in a critically ill condition alive if they don't want to be here. I actually find it quite barbaric, and the reasons we don't allow it are clearly based in the religious idea that suicide is a "sin".
These days it's even worse though because our ability to keep people alive - barely alive, sitting on the edge of death - improves all the time as medical technology progresses so often it's not just that we "don't allow people to choose to end their life" ... sometimes it's artificially prolonged suffering.

Yes I agree, everyone is happy to give a dog a quick, peaceful and dignified death if they don't have long to live but we won't allow it for a human ... for some reason, human death has to be a painful clutching at those last few breaths that's traumatic for everyone involved.

Hmmm as BOTS said there are places to have this done legally.
As tragic as this is...I would never ask my husband to do that because if not losing me was enough to have to deal with, to then have to go through the ordeal of having to prove he killed me for the right reasons...face prison etc would be a cruel thing to do to someone you love...

This is a Problem for Cyprus
not something they have dealt with.
I don’t like the headline wording ..
He probably said something like ..
“ I loved my wife and she begged me to end her suffering “

A bench trial for accused murder? That's pretty rare.
