I vaguely recall a very highly respected reptile forum swapped servers a few years ago and all the files went missing and the forum basically disappeared WITHOUT TRACE overnight ..

Apparently the owner hadn’t backup up any files ..

I know mine, I was highlighting an issue there may be for current users who dont know their log in details and also may not be online in time to see the message about a new server.

So if they have to log in again, but dont know their details, they also wont be able to log in the new server to change their details.


Perhaps an email msg should be sent to all members :shrug:

Just to offer some log-out anxiety reassurance; cookies (the things that keep you logged in) are stored client side (in your own browser) and linked to the address so, assuming we're not changing the forum name or upgrading the software or anything, you'll still be logged in.

THAT SAID anyone who doesn't know their password/can't get into whatever email address they used for sign-up should sort that out anyway because your cookies (and saved passwords) can get wiped for all sorts of reasons that have nothing to do with TiBB or the server.

I've added 'Today's Posts' and 'Week's Posts' links alongside 'New Posts' and 'New Non-BB Posts' at the top of the page.

This is because the updated version of the forum the new server will use (when I finish the move) changes the way 'New Posts' work.

When you view a thread in the New Posts page it removes that thread from the list if you click New Posts again.

An unfortunate change, in my opinion. It would be too much work to get it working as before so I have added 'Today's Posts' and 'Week's Posts' as an alternative. Those pretty much work in the same way as New Posts does now.

It looks like I am going to have to disable the blogs feature (https://www.thisisbigbrother.com/forums/blog.php), for now at least, as it is incompatible.

I'm assuming just temporary.It's really difficult to get Google/Yahoo/Microsoft to accept e-mails without them being marked as spam, sometimes rejected (or blacked-holed without acknowledgement) completely. This has been a long-standing issue.

I often see new users make multiple attempts to register an account.

A lot of people and some websites use Gmail for their main business e-mail now. But yeah, I'll try to get the domain e-mail working right.

I've meant for a while to add alternate methods for authenticating accounts that don't rely on e-mail.
