Far from stupid are the protesters
They just care REALLY about animal welfare.
They don't just pay lip service to it.

The Police have to do what they're told to as to these protests I guess.

The majority may care about animal welfare but not the one who ran in front of the running horses . That could have ended tragically

The horses were a mile up the track but the jockeys would be unaware of trouble ahead. The stewards would have to have flagged them down to pull up from the 35 mph that they were travelling at. Could have been dangerous when the 14 animals were closely packed and their instinct was to continue running.
