If so, why? (I'm not just talking about work you might've did and been let go from as a teenager.)

i was only made redundant once through my entire career and that was when the company were on their third round of redundancies where there was basically no-one left and everyone had been put through the wringer so much we were already emotional wrecks

That sounds rough (and redundancies suck) but I was talking more about actually being given the chop rather than things like redundancy.

Sacked from my first job….went to a New Years Eve party that lasted 3 days and was too honest to lie and throw a sickie.

I was let go from a cleaning job when I was 18 because I lied through my teeth about having cleaning experience I didn't have and it showed on-job. I went away and became almost compulsively clean for one or two unrelated reasons but at the time I just wasn't up to it. Suddenly having to get up at 5a.m. and having to get two early buses just wasn't my voluntary bag back then, either. I lasted six days. H.R. decided to throw me out before I could even open my mouth to say anything so I was burnt toast by the time enough was enough.

Why did they sack you in the first place?

I took a 3 day Sickie and went out in London, I got so pissed I posted a pic on facebook of myself in a swanky hotel supping a cocktail.

At least you weren't caught drinking on the job. It was years ago and I was going through a borderline-alkie phase but by the time I was trying to get away with drinking gin on my night shifts I was essentially toast. It was a good job that I shouldn't have taken for granted so much but like I said I had a serious drinking problem back then.

As long as you had a good time. You were re-instated so it's a win-win.

And I doubt A.I./artificial intelligence could ever replace the job you do so y'know. If they need you they need you.

jobs are self creating it's how it has always been. Needs will change as AI flourishes, but there will still be needs

What cocktail was that, by the way?

All the time.
My rates are too high for a client to ever sustain me long term.

Peppermint tea is nice to drink alongside the rest of your meal (including other drinks) at Thai restaurants especially. Ditto for that Irish coffee that has a touch of whiskey in it. But as for coffee cocktails I'm not too sure about them.

Why would you admit to charging more than your work is worth :joker:.

Never been sacked or let go - but had to be the one that lets people go. Never a fun conversation
