I was watching an interesting prog last night about the death penalty in
Texas and all the executions by lethal injection they do (not many only 63
since 2015)

THey get 3 injections in sequence a barbiturate, paralytic, and Potassium
chloride. First puts you out, second paralyses and 3rd stops heart.

This Associated Press journo had witnessed over 400 since the early 80s and
he was talking about the process - he said that this one prisoner had started
to sing the carol Silent Night when the first of the 3 injections commenced.

he sang

Silent night, holy night!
All is calm, all is bright.
Round yon Virgin, Mother and Child.

and then he stopped - so that is how quick and painless it is.

Firing squad is fast and pretty painless, hanging, not so much

incorrect

as long as they have proper hangman who l; looks at the neck and weight to assess the drop: death is instant - just like Albert Pierrepoint who did 600 people in his 25 year career.

All they need do is consult the Home Office table of drops

Sooooo apparently … back in the day ..
occasionally the ‘doomed one’ would ask or even pay one or two of their acquaintances to hang on their legs to drag them down when they dropped - which reduced the time they had to suffer ..
