Let's get negative.

Just to clarify, obviously this is just my opinion, it doesn't mean that anybody else has to think that these Games are bad just because I think that they're bad.

And personally I still recommend people check any of these Games out for themselves rather than listening to a stranger on the Internet who may have different tastes to themselves, or might even have an agenda (because yes some people that play Video Games do love to give out strange hit piece reviews) rather than because they genuinely dislike the Game (Console Fanboys being an obvious example) but anyway here's another clarification.

I won't be putting Sonic Frontiers on this list, because I am going to give it a second chance somewhere down the line, to see if there is any actual fast paced Platforming in the Game, plus can the Open World be more than grass with Robots in it? We shall see.

Anyway I find that most Games are normally playable to me (even the ones that I fail to beat) because normally I've had some fun along the way before getting my ass handed to me. However these Games were so bad for me personally, that even any redeemable aspects just weren't enough to save them for me.

Here we go.

In no particular order.

1. Yakuza: Like A Dragon
wpijByUpbx8
Genres - RPG
Systems - PS4, PS5, Steam, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Amazon Luna

I've gone over my issues a few times with this Game.

1. A mainline Yakuza Game should be an Action Brawler type of Game, not a Turn Based RPG.

2. The RPG combat on it's own merits is clunky and makes regular fights drag on way longer than they need to be. Plus the huge leaps in level requirements were out of control in this Game sometimes, especially the 12-13 level leap I had to do to take on Majima and Taiga.

3. Saeko, Nanba, and the Cop guy have zero personality, and these are the characters that Ichiban is hanging around with for the entire first half of the Game, before more interesting party members do admittedly start joining the party, but I felt like the first half of the Game's story and character dynamics were dead due to most of the characters having less personality than Plank from Edd, Ed 'N Eddy.

4. I hated the blatant Social Commentary of Nanba and the Bleach Japan stuff, it felt like I stumbled onto an American product where the developers were more interested in Politics or their own personal views in real life, rather than just make good characters for the Video Game.

2. Resident Evil Village
hreoydmMBpc
Genres - Survival Horror
Systems - PS4, PS5, Stadia, Steam, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, macOS, Switch

Personally I just found this Game to be very boring.

Don't get me wrong the Game has it's decent moments every so often, but imo it's littered with a lot of boring levels and enemies, plus the tone of the Game was too serious for a Resident Evil Game imo.

Plus I would personally like to see Resident Evil go back to being Third Person Games again, it's a classic case of copying a modern trend within a genre (in this case Survival Horror) and not really making sure that it suits your series, and I honestly think that Resident Evil lacks character being in First Person.

3. Shadow Of The Colossus Remake
Tz8Nx4ndM2k
Genres - Action-Adventure, Puzzle
Systems - PS4

I'll be honest, I really liked the boss fights, and the story whilst subtle did intrigue me.

However my main issue with the Game is lack of depth or variety in gameplay, when you're not in those really epic boss fights (which like I've already said are really cool) the Game has nothing else going for it, the world is dead with no towns, Cities, Villages, Dungeons, or other types of monsters away from the Colossi to take on, it's all very basic and repetitive imo.

4. Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
2UAaxB35U7Y
Genres - Action-Adventure, Third-Person Shooter
Systems - PS4, PS5, Steam

My reasons for putting this Game on this list is simple.

1. The tone of the Game shifted into a poor man's Last Of Us.

2. Sam's character was horribly written and melodramatic imo. And invasive.

3. The Action and puzzle elements being toned down for Walking Simulator elements, it's not exactly a trade up for this Game.

Tbf though, I do remember the Madagascar level being proper Uncharted fun that you would've seen in the first three Uncharted Games.

5. Forza Horizon 4
dzsfo5s6GCI
Genres - Racing
Systems - Steam, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S

This Game has got to be the most obvious example of forcing an Open World into a Game where it doesn't belong.

I get that the Horizon sub-series has always had the Open World element compared to the main series, but that just means that I wouldn't like those Games either in the Forza Horizon series.

Tbf it's more of a subjective dislike in this particular case rather than it being genuinely terrible, but imo a Racing Game is meant to be constantly on the go, not being broke up by travelling to your destination for 10-15 mins, and having cutscenes constantly breaking up the flow of the races imo.

Again tbf to the Game I didn't complete the Game, but I think that I played enough to know that it wasn't for me.

Positives to give the Game are the races are good once you get to them, and the Graphics were phenomenal on the Game, truly stunning Game to look at.

6. Umineko: When They Cry - Question Arcs
KAeIcuss9UI
Genres - Visual Novel, Drama, Mystery, Psychological Thriller, Fantasy, Metafiction, Tragedy

Now I was torn on if I would put this Game on this list because there were things about the Game that I genuinely liked.

However I can't believe that I'm saying this, but they added too many characters to the Game, I remember by the time that I got to episode 4 feeling that they were adding characters to the story just to waste time, rather than them serving a function for the narrative.

Plus personally I do feel like taking between 8-10 hours before you even get the Murder Mystery even started was seriously irritating, it'd be like having a Resident Evil Game go by for 10 hours before fighting a Zombie, it's astonishingly terrible pacing.

And I do believe that while Beatrice is a very entertaining character, I do also believe that the Fantasy side of the story wasn't very well thought through imo.

I normally like Visual Novel Games, and I would've liked Umineko if it just had better pacing, it needed to focus on the Murder Mystery more, and it definitely needed to only have the characters that were going to bring something to the table, and not just adding characters just for the sake of adding characters.

I know that I'm probably going to come under fire for all of these picks, but I honestly found these Games to have massive issues for me that stopped them from being enjoyable experiences for me personally.

I will more than likely add more over time, especially once I'm done giving Sonic Frontiers a second chance.:joker:

I agree with Parmy - any yearly churned-out sports title is going to be just bad.

I'm going to nominate an Uncharted also but for me it's Uncharted 3. Uncharted and Uncharted 2 were amazing games. 3 felt like a quick cash-in after 2 and had some glaring issues with both the story pacing and the gunplay (in a semi-"realistic" game you should not be able to shoot an un-helmeted human in the head 4 times and still have them shoot back!).

To add a 3rd... not a game that's bad, but one I did find disappointing... Horizon Forbidden West. I absolutely --loved-- Zero Dawn and was hyoe for the sequel but for me it fell short - the story as you got into it in Zero Dawn went to a really quite dark place with the lore and I felt like the sequel needed to carry on that pace... but it felt like treading water with more of the same. I wanted more of an evolution. It was just a bit of a generic "Ubisoft-like" open world... "Assassins Creed: Machine Apocalypse".

I agree with some of your criticisms towards Uncharted 3, although I did find it entertaining to some extent, even if it weren't as good as the first two imo.

And I do agree with your assessment on Horizon: Forbidden West, I personally liked aspects of the Game, but for me the tribal stuff was really boring imo, I've seen cultures like that be done better in other fiction.

And when it comes to Sports Games I find that they're hit and miss for me, I liked FIFA 23 and NHL 16 (I think it was that one anyway) but overall the Sports genre feels like it's on a really long dry spell over the last decade (including most of the FIFA Games) I stand by (although not a yearly released Sports Sim) that Inazuma Eleven is the best Sports Games series over the last decade, I can't wait for when Victory Road comes out in 30 years time.

Any fifa football.

Ditto ..

I’ve never understood why so many youngsters spend hours playing FIFA on their bedrooms when they could be actually playing football outside !!!

Sheer madness

It was done better in Zero Dawn :joker:. All of the lore was... The whole thing felt like a rushed sequel to me. I'd rather have had them take longer to make something more impactful.

Tbh you're right on both counts imo.

I agree with some of your criticism of Village Mock apart from it being too serious. I found having giant vampires, werewolves, talking dolls etc as enemies leaned too much into the wacky and took away from the horror for me. RE7 I felt was a lot more darker tonely and a step back towards RE's survival horror roots so this being the sequel to that game I did find a bit disappointing.

Fair point about the monsters.

I was personally thinking about how dry some of the dialogue was to me in the Game when thinking about how serious the Game was.

However I do see your point about the monsters, they did feel too whacky and nothing like Resident Evil enemies from the other Games.

RE7 I feel mixed about personally, I liked Jack & Margaret, but again the Game didn't feel like a Resident Evil Game to me.

RE has always been goofy though, if anything 7 was uncharacteristically un-goofy. I would agree though that (much like 4/5/6) Resi Village isn't actually scary at all... it's firmly in the horror action category and the stronger you make the player character, the less scary a game becomes ... as a rule of thumb. e.f. Resi 5 (which I actually really enjoyed as a "fun" game) just isn't scary in the slightest, because Chris is a walking tank.
