f the Italian island of Lampedusa,
survivors told local media.
A group of four people who survived the disaster
told rescuers that they were on a boat that had
set off from Sfax in Tunisia and sank on
its way to Italy.

We don’t know how long the journey takes
We don’t know what the sea is like in that area
We don’t know what the weather is like
We don’t know how many boats a day are making this journey

All of the above factors could play a part in the drownings
