For the first time since 2001, the upcoming Big Brother launch show will be pre-recorded “as live” 24 hours in advance of transmission
This way, viewers will get to see all the action from the housemates first night in the house.
The launch show will be pre-recorded the night before in front of an audience. It's then expected to be broadcast 'as live' with minimal editing the day after. This way the launch episode will include highlights from the housemates' first night in the house, as well as their introductory VTs.
The Big Brother companion show will follow - live - on ITV2.

I wonder if part of the reason for the pre-record is because it's also airing on ITV, and they won't want to risk anything controversial happening live on the main channel?

To celebrate the television event of the year and the return of the ultimate social experiment, Big Brother: The Launch will air on ITV1, ITV2 and ITVX in a disruptive multi-channel and streaming takeover. The remainder of the series will be available nightly at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX (apart from Saturdays).

As a viewer it'll make little difference tbh.

I guess the only real difference is we might know the housemates prior to transmission?

Yeah a pre-recorded launch isn’t a bad idea, at lease the first proper episode won’t just be a rehash of what we’ve pretty much already seen

The Big Brother launch show will be the ONLY pre recorded show to air ‘as live’ - and ITV have stated that this means much more house action will be seen during episodes 1 and 2.
Eviction shows WILL BE LIVE! However due to only being 60 minutes every night, eviction interviews will roll over the break into the side show Big Brother: Late & Live. This is also hosted by AJ and Will so essentially turns eviction nights into one big 2 hour LIVE event (followed by 2 more hours of live feed)!

Feels a bit rubbish we're getting the launch show pre-recorded, I just hope they don't make it look fake.. but I'm glad regardless that we're getting 6 out of 7 days a week of Big Brother: Late & Live..

They can edit out all the bits where the housemates discuss meeting each other at auditions.

Am I one of the only ones who thinks this is a great idea? Whenever I watch the first two series’ of BB, I love the way the launch shows are edited. I always found the following launch shows to be really drawn out.

Tickets now available for launch night on the 7th.
Also for the 1st 3 follow up shows.
i think it's a good idea. I have no idea why people want to hold on to a concept from over 20 years ago that proved tired and unpopular. It needs to be a fresh take on the show for this time. As long as it maintains my interest and is entertaining, i don't care what format it takes

Like it actually because it leaves the second episode with more time to show other stuff rather than them entering again

Bonjour, ain't been on here properly in about 5 years. Right, i'm ok with the pre-recorded launch (though i would rather it live as live is always more chaotic and atmospheric) But if by doing it 24 hours in advance they can tweek the production, include more content and give it more of a punch to drawer the casual viewers it needs in then that's fine.
The main thing for me is the housemate spoilers, it feels like they will more than likely release the housemates the day before launch to get in-front of leaks from the audience members/Twitter and i have a big problem with that. That's a very Love Island move and BB has always been known for the reveal on launch night, its the best part.
I'm just happy BB is back though.
How'd have thought eh.

I'd hope that audience members and press have some kind of NDA, but either way I'm going to avoid this site and not have any newsfeeds open until I've seen it on the Sunday :joker:

Hopefully we have a spoiler-free thread for launch night where people can post their immediate first impressions. That's one big reason why I enjoyed the live launch.
