Are we talking football?

Because I support Hull FC rugby league club because my Dad wouldn't have it any other way.

I support Everton because when I first got into football, they were the best. Same reason people support Manchester United or Liverpool. And Hull City had never even been in the top flight at that time.

Grew up watching Chelsea. Everyone in Primary school supported either Chelsea, Arsenal or Spurs. It was always Chelsea for me. Went to my first game with my uncle and cousin in the mid 90's, we beat Sheffield Utd 3-2. Stamford Bridge has changed immensely since then.

We didn't always win, but we narf played some entertaining football back in mid/late 90's/early 00's before the Roman Empire. One of my best mates was half Italian in school, he's dad loved Chelsea because of the Italian players we had.

Going back to when i really got into football in the mid 90's, this is the worst i've position ive ever seen Chelsea currently in.

Darren Bent's dad is a Chelsea fan and took Darren to hundreds of games and when he was 9 he decided to support Arsenal and it stuck (#glory hunter)

That is an awful story, no dad should let their kid decide who they support - its chosen for you at birth

Yeah that's bad form, but at least it was a London club. We had a couple kids in school, considering this was just outside London, who supported Man Utd. That was unforgivable. Even one of the teachers supported Utd, he was from the Portsmouth ffs.

I did used to go watch Hull city in the late 80s when they were in the old division 1. Which is now the championship. But in 1990 I went to my first rugby league game and there was no turning back. I was hooked. It was just a better experience. Everton turning sh1te at that time probably helped.

Did you know down south Rugby is very much a middle to upper middle class sport. Only the Grammar and posh schools have Rugby, or "Rugga". Football is very much the working class mans sport down here.

Initially to piss off my Dad and Brother. They are both big Bolton fans and so by default hated Utd so I made them my team. My friend came round once with a Utd scarf on and our kid set fire to it in the garden

My mum was a Utd fan because she used to go to the games as she fancied Georgie Best (she hated gootball though )

Up North in the M62 corridor, we play Rugby league. A truly working class sport. Rugby Union is your University sport.

I did put a video on here a couple of years ago explaining the difference between the two.

It was at one time just one sport. But in the late 19th century the people of the North who worked working class jobs like miners and that sort of job broke away because they wanted to get paid. Because when they got injured , then they couldn't go to work and earn money.

Rugby League was the first professional code of rugby where money was earned. Rugby Union didn't become professional until 1989.

I used to support Chelsea after the playground has to choose between Chelsea or Leeds in the upcoming FA Cup final … that was in 1970 ..

By 1973 I’d switched to FC Barcelona as the best player in the world ( 3 times World Best Player) Johan Cruyff had joined them..

I’ve supported them avidly ( from a distance ) ever since

My father encouraged me to watch / enjoy / even play skilful football so I’ve always had a soft spot for Brazil ( and Spain ) .

In Hull we obviously don't have the religious rivalry you have but the rugby league rivalry between East Hull and West Hull is a huge rivalry.

I'm East Hull born and bread but I support the West Hull team because that's the tesm of my father.

So I've lived my all life amongst my rivals.

I heard this discussion on talksport earlier and agreed with Goldstein

If you come from a big football family and going to your local team regularly is ingrained in you as a kid then it makes sense to support them. A lot of people aren't like that though and so will just pick a team for random reasons. I genuinely think I started supporting West Ham because I liked the name as a kid. We didn't have a 'local team' as such as it was a small village in Gloucestershire. There were the two Bristol teams but I never went to see them and they weren't that close. My nearest professional team was Forest Green and as an adult I've gone to watch them a lot but they were conference relegation battlers through my childhood. My Mum is from Newcastle and supports them but that was hundreds of miles from where I lived so never felt that bothered about it.

So West Ham it was and whilst I picked it I don't think that matters too much. I do appreciate though that there are many West Ham fans who grew up by the Boleyn, go back generations etc and it runs a little bit deeper for those people than it might do for me

I still find it bizarre that they've never been champions. Because they've always been a big well supported club.

The only time England won the World Cup. The goals were scored by Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters. Both of West Ham and the Captain was West Ham's Robert Moore.

Yeah I feel now really grateful to my 7 year old self because I picked a team with such history and a great fan culture. It's a proper club and I can get to games quite easily now but none of that was in my mind at the time haha

And yeah we never win the league and have had so many disappointments over the years but I'm not sure I'd have it any other way. That's something I knew even as a kid that I didn't want to just support the team who were winning the most

But I support them cause I went once and got the bug. Until the stupid all seater stadiums came in..ain't been since unless its backup final.

Did west ham a few times for a day out, nothing more than that really. Prefer millwall if I'm honest.

I dont actually mind hibs either, cause they are Edinburgh as well. Glasgow celtic and glasgow rangers are nothing but ****e off my shoe as far as I'm concerned.

So its probably locality that does it for me, cause I'm also very supportive of my actual home towns football and rugby and cricket teams. Dont go to the womens hockey, folk would call me an old perv.

And thankfully as the IRA are no more, the nearest punishment to them would be ISIS.

And back on topic, Mikael Forssell helped cement my support for the club when he was only a few goals off Henry & Shearer for the Golden Boot.

and have sympathy for them, from near bankruptcy to being saved by a turkish owner and getting back to highest level, and showing more ambitions again to remain competing on the highest level but also showing entertaining attractive football to the fans

another rising star we got currently is Tijjani Noslin, could've gone to Millwall for 2 million but he said no, he is scouted by former international Wesley Sneijder fun fact

also supertalented goalkeeper in Ivor Pandur, very trustworthy, most saves of the league next to AZ's Matthew Ryan this season so far :clap2:

Fortuna Sittard, because we have a very decent club history, have delivered our fair share of decent later on international top players like Mark van Bommel, Fernando Ricksen (Fernando gone way too soon of that horrible ALS illness :bawling:)

no

our home club is PSV, but also FC Eindhoven

we have two teams, and from the two i like rooting for FC Eindhoven more, the oldest of the two btw

their coach this season is one from the City Football Group: Willem Weijs

but i myself watch all of Fortuna's games in my own room (apart from when we face PSV, then downstairs with my dad who supports PSV, so that's gonna be a clash i think, although our teams aren't each others rivals so)

I’ve always supported Charlton Athletic, same as my dad, same as my grandad on my mum’s side (for some reason my mum likes West Ham but I think it’s because she likes the colour of the kit tbh). I’ve been going since around 98 so I’ve been fortunate enough to see us during our better years when we was in the prem up until 2007.

Also Charlton is my local team, I’ve met quite a lot of people who aren’t even Charlton fans but have been to seen them play back in the older days (pre 80s) when the ground was all standing and could hold 70,000. They always say how good it was back then and how family oriented the club has always been.

Yes…when I first went to a game with my now husband…he was a Chelsea fan as he played for Chelsea as a youth team player. The fans at Chelsea were so much moreaggressive and I honestly didn’t enjoy it.
Fulham are known as a quieter fan base and it was a whole different experience…we have grown to be massive Fulham fans…

The Broadway bar was one of my favourite pubs in London. They had bar staff that spoke to you if the place was empty.. which it usually was on my visits. The posh resteraunt over the road and down a tiny street from it was also very pleasant.

I remember in the 80s when the old ground of the valley was quite derelict and falling apart and they ended up ground sharing with Crystal Palace at Selhurst park. Before The Valley was renovated.

I’ve always thought this about Fulham since it sits right next to the Thames. I’ve heard it’s a really good ground to go to though so it’s definitely one I want to visit when we get the chance.

Have you watched a game at The Valley before? Or have you just passed it when visiting London?

Apparently it was pretty bad by the mid 80s. I’ve got a few history books which show what the ground originally looked like and it’s crazy to see how many people attended the games. We ground shared with Crystal Palace and then West Ham in the early 90s. We moved back to the Valley in December 1992 with help from the fans who volunteered to clear the ground and help rebuild the stadium.

I was fixing someones tv in a house right next to it.

I'm amazed they got the pitch level on that hill.
