My (literal) worst nightmare.
And as the driver has died, it's unlikely it'll ever be known what actually happened. From the description to me it sounds like they might have dozed off.

Maybe, I think that would show up in autopsy at least. I say "at least" because it's good for people in the long run to at least have some explanation of what happened... it obviously doesn't really change anything in the short term.
whats unusual is that early reports only talked about 1 serious injury, which kind of implies that the driver was dead at the scene, which leads to the possibility that they had a medical emergency that caused it.
I don't know a lot about modern buses, but do they not have lane correction built in, like most modern cars?

AFAIK a lot of them are only audible warnings they don't actually correct automatically (and even those with steering correction can usually be set to a warning mode optionally)... the technology is still new-ish as standard too, if the bus was more than a couple of years old it might not have had lane assist of any kind.
That is awful. I feared there'd be deaths if a coach like that overturns at motorway speeds, hopefully everyone else is okay

They all require seatbelts these days and obviously people are supposed to wear them but it's impossible to enforce, and a lot (most) people just don't. My daughter (13 at the time) went to London late last year, 12+ hour coach motorway journey, and I was watching the "trip tracker" app and *****ing my pants the entire bloody time. She was of course sending videos of her and her friends enjoying the trip, eating their service station snacks, playing games... not one of them wearing a seatbelt. Terrifying and devastating in the event of a crash.

Yeah I was thinking that with the seatbelts. I never remember wearing them on a school trip and you'd also often have people moving around and going between the seats and stuff like that
