There are set to be a number of changes to the Big Brother show compared to the last time, but will contestants be allowed to take a nap during the day.

This sounds like good news imo. Producers allowing them to nap gives evidence that they wont be messing with storylines or anything :fc: ?

Good then they can stay up really late and entertain us.

That's a relief to know this, especially if everyone's gonna be watching the 2 hour feeds on ITVX after every episode.
I know that since Big Brother: Over The Top (Autumn 2016) here in the US, we've had a no napping rule.

Also, the article doesn't state it will be allowed - it's bad grammar on their part. It's saying they used to have a nap ban - will they this time? They don't actually know one way or the other.
They should have access to music as well .. maybe even news snippets

No thanks. "No contact with the outside world" should also extend to "no information from the outside world" (unless in extreme circumstances).
Music should be a luxury/reward if they win tasks, etc.

What’s the benefit of keeping the news from them ?
It would give them more topics of conversation which has to be a bonus

To what end .. how does keeping them bored stiff make for a better viewer experience ?
One of the highlights for me was in one of the earlier series where they had a home made ping pong competition using frying pans and rolled up tinfoil or something

Again…. To what end ?!
I don’t see how having them bored rigid and having nothing new to talk about makes for a better viewer experience

This has nothing to do with keeping real world news from them.
They can generate their own conversations. That's sorta the whole point of the show. Isolation. People creating their own drama and conversation.

I mean, the show managed for the most part... for many years....

Maybe they should at least try a few news items to see what the result is ..

It was taken off telly for years so it can’t have a perfect format

It also says at the bottom of the article a quote from bb 18's Deborah
"You’re not allowed to sleep during the day, that is the number one rule,” she explained. “Because you are filming, if you’re sleeping there’s no content.”
It remains to be seen if this rule carries over to the ITV reboot of Big Brother or if it will actually be addressed when the show is on, but it is possible it will be kept in place.
So its just a misleading headline and they don't actually know

Yes, clearly that was the issue.
Yes, clearly that was the issue.
We don’t know what the issue was , presumably a mixed bag .
My point is that it is maybe worth sending on the newspapers for one day or .. showing the week’s tv news clips on their Tv .. just to see what comes of it .. what harm could it do .
It may just set off hours of discussion moving on to related subjects .
I’d be interested to hear all their views on the current news items .

Then it just becomes televised twitter, akin to any other news magazine show. Might as well just air This Morning.

Good. I never understood why they wouldn’t be allowed to nap during the day. Fair enough if there is a task that requires everyone to take part but I can’t imagine it’s easy to get a good night’s sleep in a place like the BB house so this is a good move IMO.
Obviously, they don't want them napping during a task, but i think the no napping rule came from the time we had 24 hour live feed. A recorded show, it doesn't matter a toss if they are asleep during the day or not. However, if some sleep a lot they will soon get booted out as the others will get more air time

This article doesn't say that will be allowed to nap on the ITV series - it questions whether they will or not and then talks about previous housemates' experience

Hardly .. it would be people we are all ( hopefully) interested and invested in so it would be nice to know how your favourite person / people felt about the current news stories … immigration, sports , celebs or whatever

I'm not sure "Big Brother gathers housemates on the sofa to discuss [news item]" would be riveting TV either.

They shouldn’t have any contact with the outside world in any form. Conversations about things will happen naturally they don’t need the Daily Mirror being dropped on the doorstep every morning to create discussions.

There must be a cut off point where they run out of things to discuss .. being closed off together 24/7 for 6 weeks
I’m just suggesting they give them a few pointers or conversation starters

There probably is times where housemates run out of things to discuss but that happens in situations in the outside world as well. At my home (and I can imagine it’s the same with many people) we aren’t constantly talking about things 24/7, sometimes we do want our own peace and quiet and it will be the same with the housemates (hence what the diary room is for).
It wouldn’t be natural to keep forcing conversations out of housemates by providing news updates that’s happening on the outside world and if Big Brother feels the need for pointers or conversation starters for the housemates, well then they shouldn’t be in there to begin with because it’s a social experiment.

So what is the experiment supposed to show / highlight/ prove ?

I remember when they were allowed to watch a film.
I remember one series they watched the film "East is East"
I remember BB3 housemates watching the early morning World Cup quater final between England and Brazil in the Japan/Korea World Cup of 2002. It was a 7:30am kick off UK time.
That was the morning Sandy left by climbing over the roof, having pissed in the bin, that Kate endend up putting out for the binmen. I think Michael Owen's opening goal was the final straw for him.

Exactly what it has done since the show has been airing. It’s highlighting how people from different backgrounds can communicate and interact with one another whilst living under one roof.
I think they should be allowed to watch movies again.
Movie reactions on YouTube has a big following.
It's more interesting than "rank yourselves on the podiums from sexiest to least sexiest"

But why can’t that include things like music or a few daily news snippets ..
Pretend it’s Feb 2022 and they were just shown footage of Russia starting the bombing of Ukraine - imagine the intense discussions we could see ..

Because they don’t need to. If people want to talk about what’s going on in Ukraine then someone will bring it up. If people want to talk about their favourite musicians, again someone will bring it up. Topics of discussion doesn’t need to be forced onto them, it’s a show about socialising, discovering and learning things about different people and cultures that some people haven’t really integrated with on the outside world.
They are mean't to be finding out about one another not what the bloody news is about ~ how ridiculous.
It’s not ridiculous at all .. they would be finding out each other’s opinions on the climate worries , useless politicians, gender debates , sporting events etc etc .
These are things they may well discuss these matters .. I’m just suggesting introducing conversation prompts
