I would have no issue if they were there on merit, like Kelly Dalglish, Hazel Irvine or the excellent Leanne Crichton in Scotland but like the shoehorning in of minorities on tv, they are not. Its just middle-class white TV people virtue-signalling for imagined likes.

i don't care. Of all the things to worry about in the world, a lady commentator is way down the list. The majority of male commentators and pundits talk crap, so why not the ladies too?

only because they are a Lady.
That's what the problem is.

who? Here we go again LT. Robbie Savage. No way should he be anywhere near a commentary booth. Also, Michael Owen. He talks drivel and he was the one who presented the show with Howard Webb on VAR analysis. Please list the qualifications you believe he has to fulfil such a role? He's not a journalist or trained interviewer but somehow he got the job

I didnt understand the reasoning for having an all female punditry line up at the Womens World Cup, I dont think that does anything for equality, there should have been one male pundit, I know wheeled Ian Wright onto the pitch at times but its not the same thing, if a female pundit is commentating at the mens WC then a male should commentate on the women
Crimson Dynamo

THis what he actually said:
"'The presenters we have now, some of the girls are so good, they are better than the
guys. It’s a great time for the ladies,' he said."
'There are some very, very good lady presenters and I’m working with one in two days’
time, Terry Yorath’s daughter, Gabby [Logan],' he said.
However, he claimed women pundits were not in a position to commentate on men's
football.
'If I see an England lady footballer saying about England against Scotland at Wembley
and she’s saying, "If I would have been in that position I would have done this", I don’t
think it’s quite the same,' he said.
'I don’t think it crosses over that much.'

Maybe women shouldn't be commenting on men's football. In the last couple of years the women have won the European cup and reached the final of the World Cup and all of them on a fraction of the salary the boys are making. This is something the lads haven't done for years and years. I don't see how they can possibly relate to an overpaid, overhyped, lackluster men's England side that always promises so much and delivers so little.
What irritates me about pundits and commentators is - and it's the males who are at fault for this - when they turn into a Fast Show sketch and talk absolute b******* for ninety minutes thinking they have to fill every unforgiving second with inane chatter. Comment on the game and keep your tedious anecdotes for your after dinner speaking work.

Better off on Talksport where its much more factual - team news, how will they line up and news from, other games

You can’t compare the experience / expertise of the women to the guys who played at a completely different level .
As regards Savage I feel he was underrated as a player as he kinda lived up to his name which is why he’s universally unpopular..
He was good enough to start his career at ManU but like many, many others was released due to the high level of competition there .. he did win a Cup of some kind maybe FA ?
He was a mainstay of a very decent Wales team for ten years .. and was captain and took free kicks as I recall .

They can commentate but it would be far better to get an actual heavyweight who has full knowledge of that weight division - the idea is to get the best people to commentate not shoehorn in the latest woke zeitgeist to get producer brownie points
I can honestly say i hardly ever watch any punditry anymore, nearly all of it is a load of bollocks. The only panel i like is the US Paramount+ CL coverage. Thierry, Carra, Big Meeks and the perfect Kate Abdo. They're much less uptight and preachy like here in the UK, they have a laugh, but also talk sense.
The fact is most women just don't watch the woman's domestic game. It will never be equal, the female players will never get anywhere the same money as men, unless it's watched and supported. It's on free TV every weekend, unlike the mens. But it's still nowhere near watched, attended, or supported compared to men's game.

But you never hear people coming online saying "Oh what's Barry Mcguigan doing coming on talking about Tyson Fury fighting, what does he know about heavy weight boxing he'd get beaten by the 100th ranked Heavyweight boxer blah blah blah"
Also studies have found that it's men who watch more women's football than women. some studies have even found that men are twice as more likely to watch women's domestic football than women are. Up to 64% of men compared to as little as 18% of women will watch the female domestic game.
Women are also allocated more of the revenue gained/earned in major tournaments compared to the men's major tournaments. It was something like 20% to the women, and 8% to the men.
However, as far as attendance, and viewing amongst younger girls and teens, the female game has never been as popular as it is now. The next generation of girls are more likely to take up football than ever before.
Well, that's not what you said earlier up the thread:

I really don’t think it’s anything to do with sexism ..
I work in a female dominated workplace and the vast majority ( and my lovely wife ) feel exactly the same as I do .
I prefer being around women to men and believe that women are probably better at most things - that doesn’t sound like a sexist attitude to me to be fair ..

I never give women golf commentators a second thought, its just natural to me

Yeah i agree with that.
And if it was an unknown professional male golfer or an unknown professional female golfer, who would you listen to more?
In that circumstance it would all depend on who had watched the most, had the most knowledge of the sport. If both had watched the same the amount give or take, been into it for the same amount of years, then both opinions are equal. Gender wouldn't and shouldn't play a part.
I would add that I don’t watch women’s football .. I’ve tried it over the years- at the major competitions but it leaves me cold - so I don’t know any of the ex women players ..
One of my other gripes is that the ex female pundits/ players when talking about the current women always go way over the top in describing how good they are .. “ unbelievable technique “ or “ fabulous vision “ , “ absolutely amazing passer of ball” - when in reality they are nothing like as good as they describe .
Again that’s not being sexist it’s just my considered opinion

I have no issues really with women commentating on men's Football, I mean it's no different to female fans giving out their opinions on men's Football is it? Or to use another example, when Championship players commentating on Premier League matches.
The only thing I would fix to even it out better, is having men commentating on women's Football more regularly.

Robbie Savage had one of the better times at Blues imo.
We finished 10th in the Premier League in one of the seasons with him in the squad.
And I know that's not a trophy, but you've got to remember what club's ambitions were that season, and we overachieved thanks to players like Savage and Forssell.
