Words of advice from Henry to Trish
Have you ever heard anything so utterly ridiculous - its like from a Gypsy Fortune teller at the end of Blackpool Pier

They're just throwaway phrases to make people feel better but no I don't believe in that I'm afraid

I actually do believe in that.

Why? What about when children die from cancer or people suffering and dying in wars or famine? It's a luxurious belief to have imo
I mean it's at least better and less nihilistic than 'Nothing happens for a reason, our lives are pointless, and we're all just dumb apes sitting on a rock, waiting for inevitable oblivion.'
I know some people like to tell themselves they feel some sense of empowerment off of that belief, but... they're lying to themselves lol.

It’s a belief I have, and it’s served me well. Not to go into my life story on here but I’ve gone through a fairly difficult life and so I’ve adopted this into my mindset on the belief these things happen for reasons which serve a purpose in the future. I don’t think it’s a luxurious belief to have at all.

I don't believe that either, it's not one or the other

I think you can use bad things happening to you to learn from and maybe make yourself a stronger and wiser person for it but I wouldn't think there's some cosmic plan of bad things happening specifically to teach you lessons either
I'm sorry you had a difficult life

It’s my belief, I don’t expect others to follow it though or fully understand. Everyone has their own mindset.
And thank you, it wasn’t me looking for sympathy, just trying to explain why I have that belief.

The house this year is full of cliche platitudes.
There is a ton of corny pseudo-spiritualism being dressed up as 'wisdom' in there.

Paul's advice to Dylan was actually based on a semblance of fact and came from a kinder place than Henrys poundland cod psychology
When he told Dyland that it was a fear of the unknown that was making him anxious
…but Henry’s own sobs and and upset when he was up for eviction were the funniest thing about him saying that…

I don't like Paul much, but I agree here yeah.
…anyway, I guess that happened for a reason as well and had a good outcome because he wasn’t voted out and that obviously would lift him and raise some confidence levels…so…’…everything happens for a reason…..etc….’…

..I think for me it’s more about positivity and negativity and trying to find positives in specific situations…that if something/something didn’t happen and sliding doors, type thing…then it wouldn’t have led a path/and been a necessary part…negatives as well as positives are both as necessary as each other as a general thing…I’m not saying this well but I’m tired, I’m sorry…I don’t know if any of that makes sense…

I don’t think he knew what to say to be honest. In those types of situations people tend to just say words or phrases that they think will make the other person feel better.
Paul’s advice was sound though.

It's an insincere load of crap when someone doesn't actually have anything else to say

…I liked that Henry took thought to say something in a comforting way …and just gave that time to Trish…(…I think…)…whatever his exact words, his sentiments were…I’ve been there also and understand but..here I am and it’ll all be ok, whatever the outcome of the eviction…/type thing…

He may as well have just said the classic
"it is what it is"
and then took in a big breath

you make your own fate
You don’t do that either , most things happen completely by chance that have huge repercussions on your fate , most importantly where you were born and who to

Henry talks rubbish, he got offended when Zak told him " may the best man win".....when they were both up for eviction :idc: .

I get this and have the same mindset. For similar reasons to you, I do believe that some things are just meant to be, even if those things can be hard to bear. It helps in making some sense of difficult experiences that are outside our control, and that in turn, helps us to move forward and be more prepared for the future. It’s not a luxurious belief but a coping mechanism.:

Absolutely. They can bring a sense of acceptance to a situation that we don’t like and can’t change. That, in turn, helps people feel they can move forward.
I think, sometimes, it’s not necessarily the words said that are important, but the intentions behind them, and the feeling of support they generate which often provides comfort and strength.

Duh, because it helps us remember the true meaning of Christmas.
