Fans of the caramel bar Caramac have been left "devastated" after Nestlé confirmed it is discontinuing the sweet.

Nestlé said it was "a difficult decision" but pointed to slower sales in recent years.

Caramac was launched more than 60 years ago, quickly gaining popularity thanks to its distinctive red and yellow wrapper and caramel flavour.

It comes as rival brands have launched similar "blonde" chocolate products.

Cadbury's, for example, launched its Caramilk range in 2021 and has since made various different spin-offs like Caramilk Buttons, while supermarkets Asda and B&M have launched caramel-flavoured chocolate bars this year.

News of Caramac being axed first surfaced on social media on Tuesday, sparking an outcry from fans.

On X, formerly known as Twitter, one said the news had "ruined my day" while another quipped: "Rest in peace Caramac."

I've not seen a Caramac bar on a shop shelf for literally YEARS... have to say, I thought it was discontinued about a decade ago :umm2:.

On this topic, I reckon a lot of chocolate/sweet manufacturers must be having to scale back. Teens these days are awfully healthy. Vaping aside :hehe:. They just don't seem interested in unhealthy eating the way we were in my day...

I think the mystery of falling sales has been solved. Nowhere has had them on the shelves for years! :joker:

On the topic though, I have a workmate from Eastern Europe and she brought back chocolate like this for everyone after a visit home, except it was like 100x better. Just amazing. Obviously I don't know the brand cos it was like Vzlóglovóviksíkswitz or something.

I saw something about this new confectionery bar a few weeks ago and it was described as tasting just like Caramac so it’s a strange coincidence to stop production .

if they had Caramac available to eat in Israel and Gazza, it's possible that they would live in peace savouring the delicious chocolate bar
