View Full Version : Carol Vorderman sacked by the BBC
Carol Vorderman is to leave her weekly show on BBC Radio Wales after breaking BBC guidelines by attacking the government on social media.
The presenter, who has hosted the Saturday morning show for four years, is a vocal critic of the government on X, formerly Twitter.
The BBC recently published new social media rules for stars and staff.
Vorderman said she was not "prepared to lose my voice on social media" and managers "have decided I must leave".
She has almost 900,000 followers, and her previous posts include one on Saturday that said: "This iteration of the Tory Party needs to be utterly dismantled at the next election."
On the same day, she commented on a post from Home Secretary Suella Braverman, who said she and the "law-abiding majority" want to stop people who "cause nuisance and distress" by pitching tents in public spaces.
Vorderman wrote: "What I want to stop, and what the law abiding majority wants to stop is your vile government clinging onto power for a day longer."

[Carol Vorderman says she was told to leave her
BBC Radio Wales show after
falling foul of the corporation's social media policy]
[The 62-year-old former Countdown star,
who has been at the station for five years,
said she was 'not prepared to stop'
venting her 'strong beliefs' on
Twitter and Instagram.]
[She added: 'Consequently I have now
breached the new guidelines and
BBC Wales management have decided
I must leave.
We each must make our decisions.']

I'm really stunned by her, I recall her on Question Time filled with anger at any criticism of the Con party.
I welcome this turnaround where she sees the rotten from the core heartlessness from this present Con party now.
She was NEVER an advocate of the left.
She tore into anti Con policies regularly.
Welcome however Ms Vordernan to the light.
At least seeing through this shocking mess there is in government now.
I salute her too for not being willing to give up her expressing her dismay and dislike for all things of this shambolic Con government now.

I don't buy it for a second, she's always been a bandwagon jumper. I think she's saying what she thinks people want to hear in order to stay relevant. I mean, it's a wise step in that regard, to keep in the limelight, as the younger generation will have no idea who she is really.

I had no idea she was presenting a radio show, she sat in for Jobby recently and she was so amatuerish, its astounding she has presented for 5 years on radio, she best not be taken on by LBC :fist:

She is spot on.
I think Braverman is a total disgrace to any kind of politics.
She shouldn't be an MP never mind hold high office in government.
Only hard-line and heartless Cons could likely relate to her hateful, divisive and discriminative rhetoric.

Well she's not wrong is she.
Exactly.
Plus she said it on Twitter, so like with Gary Lineker, it's another unfair sacking by the BBC.
When will they learn to not dictate what their workers can and can't say on Social Media?

Pathetic, it’s not like she’s even saying anything controversial, she just wants people who do corrupt things to not hold public office…

But didn't the BBC stand by the woman who tried to play down Stanley Johnson's behaviour towards his Wife?
Plus the public can't be so arrogant and entitled to tell BBC employees what they can and can't say on their Social Media accounts either.
It's just as arrogant and entitled as the people that moan about Sports being on the BBC because they're personally not interested in it but try to dress it up with "I pay the BBC License for this garbage" while ironically not understanding that people will feel the same way about some of the things that they like on the BBC.:joker:
But regardless, the BBC and the public have no right to tell someone what they can and can't Tweet, it's very slippery slope to ever start deeming this sort of behaviour as acceptable.
At the end of the day, no matter what political side you're on, the BBC's license fee is one of the most draconian laws still in place in this country. The only way to stop it is to stop pay for and accepting it.
