View Full Version : As we head for the final, what are your overall thoughts of this series?…
…with 5 weeks out of 6 almost over and we head for the final week of our long awaited BB return…what are your thoughts of this series …have you loved it or not so much…?…I saw some thoughts just before it started or in the early days of feeling that it wouldn’t work for today and the times we live in…what are the things you’ve particularly liked about it or not liked at all, any changes you would like to see made…?…is 6 weeks the right length or shorter or longer…?..a different time of year, maybe…and going back to the summer…?….
…and etc…

Definitely needed to be longer.
I get why they only did six weeks, with not knowing how well it would perform but I think it’s done ok ratings wise.
Great tasks and a good bunch of housemates.
It’s been lovely to have the show back though.

I have enjoyed it for what it is. It's been a welcome distraction from dark evenings and has certainly been better than some of the Channel 5 era series. Some of the tasks have been great and the housemates have been pretty good.
Its also been great to see so many returning and new people on the forum who I am hoping will stick around.
I've enjoyed it far more than any of the C5 era series. The length is just right too

Brilliant to have it back, think the length has been okay as it has not got boring and great to have the forum busy again, don't think the mods have been too busy as debate seems to have been pretty respectful

I’ve really enjoyed it. I like the dramas have been gradual over time by tension building up and seem natural, rather than people just arguing for air time.
We have a nice blend of housemates for us to love and loathe.
We’ve got comic relief with some housemates so it’s not just all focusing on the negatives but some fun too. I dislike when a season is all doom and gloom, it’s not fun to watch so I’m glad it hasn’t been.
The only thing which is slightly ruining it is the outcry of racism being rife in the house by fans when it isn’t there. I agree Trish has had a hard time, but it’s not due to racism.

Overall it’s been great and I think ITV can look at it as being a success. Next year I think they should air it during the summer for maybe 8/9 weeks this time, though.

I prefer it at this time of year. One, I like being out and about in summer as the weather is good so it ruins my evening plans haha. Two, summer tends to see the housemates just lying in the garden sunbathing which is dull. This time of year means they do a bit more.

Fair point. I think it’s more of a nostalgia thing wanting it to be on during the summer

Its been better than I expected in some areas
They have been throwing the words social experiment around which I think is a p1ss take
Still feels too much like a game show too many gimmicks
House mates have had it far too easy , been given tasks that a child could of passed
Should remove the prize fund
Bb pays for your rent bills and mortgage if you have one while you are in the house so it is a free experience

It’s been good to have it back.
Watching the live feed every night has opened my eyes to how manipulating BB are to us viewers.
The main show is very much taken out of context to what actually happens.

that would take away a huge chunk of the social experiment though  i.e how far will people to to get their hands on cash
It's not a replacement for classic Channel 4 era, but it's been a pleasant breath of fresh air and trounces the Channel 5 series.
Any problems I have with it are things that could easily be ironed out if they wanted to. Fewer, more multi layered tasks that are allowed to breathe over a few days. 24/7 live feed. More intensive, in-depth eviction interviews.
Hopefully they're satisfied with these ratings and take them as encouragement to keep to the same relatively basic format and casting principals. Yes it's been edited, no it's not Big Brother 2000 but I actually think the modernisation/social conscious aspect of it has been a complete success.
People will bemoan some of that, whilst others will chortle that it's Big Brother at the end of the day, but they have willingly included discussions on politics and identity. At length. In multiple epidodes. Which - unless you're weirdly threatened by them things - can only be a good thing. In that respect the show's actually become a mirror to society again (even including the reactions of those who don't like that sort of content.)
It also seems really bereft of aged, trashy reality show cliches and tropes. I can't imagine if you were commissioned to write a hand wringing article on how awful Big Brother is you could really do much on it this year.
Thumbs up.

Agree with other forum members that the series should have been longer.
The presenters have been lackluster and should be replaced.
The cast.this year has been weak with alot of housemates in the 'nice' categery and not adding anything to the series.
Good reboot to establish foundations but need to improve significantly

As a huge BB fan I am glad the show is back. However I feel it needs work. They manipulate too much and it needs to be more of a natural thing rather than too scripted and set up. Having the baddies picked out and editing things does create drama but it needs to be even drama. It feels like certain tasks are set with certain housemates in mind. It hasn't been the worst series but it wouldn't make my top 5 best either. I do feel on a new station it will take time to get the balance right and a bit of trial/error.
- New Presenters (Rylan!)
- New housemates during the period to enter and 2 weeks longer show
- Less housemates at the start
- Nomination where all housemates are up together at some point and a vote to save so some of the deadwood can go early on
- Let the show be organic
- Fix the live feed or get rid of it completely
- Have more of an older house for once - make the under 25's be the group that has 2/3 people.

I've enjoyed it. The housemates have been excellent, the drama has been entertaining, and the length was perfect. The tasks were awful and forgettable though.
The production hasn't been that different from C5, we're still having manufactured drama, **** stirring tasks, inconsistent nomination rule, etc. It hasn't been as bad as C5 but certainly nothing special.
Overall it's been a good series and a strong start for ITV.

It's fine. Not bad, nothing special. Week 4 was the standout week but otherwise I'd say perfectly fine is the highest praise I can give it.

…yeah, there was always a manipulation of highlight shows, smudgie ….because of how much had to be edited down, I guess…I don’t know if it was a purposeful thing of creating specific storylines …or whether it was just that they became altered because of the necessary editing, if that makes sense…?…actually it was joining TiBB that made me realise …(…in the daily autopsy we all did……)…because reality tv forums are much more than any type of more casual viewer…/fan…anyway, I realised for anyone just relying on highlights, that the house they were viewing was entirely different from those who watched live feed as well…

I've imagined in my head taking one of the remaining housemates out the house and how things would work out. The only one that I feel I would miss is jordan. I think without him this series would have been the worst in history.
Completely ruined by the ineptitude of the production team and cast selection staff
Inconsistent punishments , some rule breaks were not punished at all
Unfair treatment of Trish by the production team who were also guilty of not offering her any protection against the bullying and allowing the downstairs crew to steal and stash booze and goodies most nights
Why wasn’t that regarded as a rule break !!!!

Oh I forgot the disgraceful idea of only half of the housemates seeing their loved ones
Even though they outnumbered the downstairs lot only Henry and Yinrun from memory got a visit .. not the most deserving as in Trish or Noky or Matty or Jordan
Yet the most selfish, unpleasant, thieving ones got a visit !
That’s on top of the them giving immunity to bloody Chanelle of all people then being granted a visit from her dad
It’s almost laughable
Outrageous and grossly unfair - just about sums up the series as a whole

I actually think the "diversity tick list" was a good thing. It's been a good series. They could use the "diversity tick list" again for the next series. However we do need an Irish housemate. It could benefit for being on longer. Next series they could try 8 weeks. I do miss a new housemate going in half way through but they didn't need it this series.

Good to spend some time with, the HMs are decent, but with no really memorable tasks or legendary moments.
TBH, the HMs all seemed to be holding back and still seem to be. The banter has been muted and cautious... As if they all know that the one wrong word will have the 'progressive' tyrants on them like rabid wolves to ruin them for life. Some of them probably would have been legendary in earlier seasons.
This is as good as BB can be in the modern day though I think, even with Remarkable TV's cack handed production team.
We will never see the likes of BB5 again.

Good summary, I've really enjoyed this series and found it very immersive television. I'll miss it when it's over but I think the length is about right for this day and age where the reality TV market is so saturated and there's all the streaming competition as well
I would like to see more creative and strategic tasks next series. The ones this year have been okay but a little reliant on props and costumes etc. rather than the concepts

Is it what you thought it would be?
We were so hyped for it coming back. Has it lived up to your expectations.
Personally for me....no. I have liked the housemates but none of them have entered my iconic favourites list. And the storylines have been meh. It feels like a non event. Very forgettable. Some good tasks here and there. It's been watchable. But it probably enters the league's of BB16 to BB18 for me. Which is a shame. If it hasn't been for Yinrun, I wouldn't be routing for any of them and I'm far more excited for I'm a celebrity
