BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2023

A shortlist of six contenders has been announced for the 2023 BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.

Cricketer Stuart Broad, jockey Frankie Dettori, footballer Mary Earps, wheelchair tennis player Alfie Hewett, athlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson and golfer Rory McIlroy are the nominees.

Voting will take place during the show on BBC One on Tuesday, 19 December.

Gary Lineker, Clare Balding, Gabby Logan and Alex Scott will present the 70th edition of the annual awards.

The programme - broadcast live at MediaCityUK in Salford - will celebrate 12 months of incredible sporting action.

The public can vote by phone or online on the night for the main award, with full details announced during the show.

Other awards to be announced include Young Sports Personality of the Year, Team and Coach of the Year, Unsung Hero and the Helen Rollason Award.

The Lifetime Achievement and World Sport Star awards will also be presented.

It will be a crazy few days for her after getting the FA Player of the Year award then making that costly blooper in the crucial England qualifier to then winning SportsPerson of the Year trophy !!

I think she deserves it. Lot of people complaining about another female winner but she's had a great year professionally and, maybe more importantly, her story has had massive cut through because of Nike originally not producing her replica shirt then having an amazing world cup forcing Nike to backtrack and then her shirt selling out under huge demand

I'd have liked to see Broady win but that would have been quite sentimental based on his retirement

i dont watch womens football, so i've no idea if it was deserved or not. I dislike all of these self congratulatory awards

Just because the mainstream, diversity, obsessed addicts are promoting it, doesn't make it good.

You can always compare it but it's still good enough entertainment in its own right particularly when it's a major tournament in the summer months when there is no other football

I've spend hundreds of pounds in the last couple of years watching some terrible football at lower league level so I've seen enough to not put that on some pedestal above the women's game
