[Gary Lineker’s recent tweets about
politicians appear to breach the
BBC’s social media guidelines,
the Government’s candidate for chairman
of the corporation has said.

The former England footballer recently hit
back at Grant Shapps after the
Defence Secretary questioned whether
the Match Of The Day host should
express political views.

Lineker was among a group of celebrities
to sign a letter calling for the Government
to scrap its Rwanda scheme
and for political leaders to come up
with a “fair new plan for refugees”.]

How much more trouble is this 'Peter Perfect' gonna cause ? i'm sick of the sight of his face ~ got no idea what he's saying as my ears are closed to him. Just go away.

Lineker is a mystery .. seemingly flawless yet his brother is supposedly a notorious club owner in the Med who’s a notorious womaniser and has some ‘dodgy’ friends and associates

There's a real determination to shut down his freedom of speech isn't there?

Btw what happened to the woman at the BBC who defended Stanley Johnson? I mean that was far worse given what he did, yet I still haven't heard of any punishment.

Personally I would prefer entertainers to be entertaining too.

However what people say on Twitter (as long as nothing criminal is being said) shouldn't be being punished imo.

Unlike the woman who defended Stanley Johnson whilst working for the BBC, but has yet to be punished by them.

But then this is the same company that worshipped Jimmy Savile, so morality isn't their strongest point.

Short of being outright abusive to someone, Lineker was given the freedom to say what he likes on X

As long as he doesn't go off on tangeants during their programmes, it's none of the BBC's business what he says in his own time.

[Axing Lineker will save BBC 'millions':
Gary breaks cover as it's revealed he
was 'open' to staying at MOTD but bosses didn't
offer him a new contract because they want
to 'give the show a facelift']

BBC News Text :
[A row has "kicked off" over the question
of who should replace Gary Lineker
as host of Match of the Day,
according to the Sun.
The paper says the BBC wants Mark Chapman
and Kelly Somers to alternate as hosts,
but insiders have told it
Chapman isn't keen on the idea.

A source is quoting saying:
"It's a headache for the BBC".]

Mark Chapman for me. No need to shoe horn a woman in to everything.

Chappers for sure but being a white male he ticks no woke boxes and the BBC will be desperate to shoehorn this

Look at all the rejoicing in here

It looks like he was pushed but of all people, he won't be too bothered when it sinks in.

Goalhanger production is doing very well. It produces the 'The rest is' podcasts. The rest is football, the rest is politics in the US and UK, etc., so he won't be short of money.

On a side note, get into 'The rest is entertainment' with Richard Osman and Marina Hyde. It's my new favorite podcast. Both are great, but Osman, in particular, has incredible insight into producing rubbish but popular games shows. I could listen to him for hours, and he clearly knows his stuff about how TV is run and who's getting the money.

Lineker will not be short of offers. He's a good presenter who can handle a live show. The thing people always overlook about him is that he played at the highest level and was the top scorer at the 86 World Cup, so he can be a pundit, too.

I can see him presenting the Champions League in America or something like that.

The only male presenter I ever see on women's football is Ian Wright and I think that's because he has been such a supporter of the women's game.

Nice one. It goes somewhat under the radar due to the success of the other 'The rest is' podcast but, for me, its much better listen than the politics or football podcast

I would prefer top an ex male player

My dream choice would be Andy Gray but that won’t happen so it has to be Gary Neville …

They are presumably looking at an ex female / black / lesbian player that nobody has ever seen play .. so Alex Scott

If they go down the woke route the only who doesn’t grind my gears is Sue Smith

If they give it to the clueless Alex Scott the ratings will plummet to record levels

If a woman is qualified to speak about football as much as a man then there shouldn’t be any issue with a woman getting the job.

They are after all speaking about grown men kicking a football around a field. It’s not that’s serious

GiRTh

Chappers is the obvious choice.

Alex Scott would great, despite her detractors, but there would a huge backlash and as soon as the viewing figures started to go down she'd be out.

Big decision to be made and the BBC will catch hell who ever they pick

Its a male football .. show

The ladies have their own football shows hosted by women , women pundits and women commentators … not a bloke in sight unless Ian Wright is at a loose end .
