if they get inflation down to 2% this year and stimulate some growth it will be good for everyone, so i'm all for it.

[Jeremy Hunt has announced the date
of 6 March for a spring budget,
fuelling speculation about an early
general election despite the Conservatives
trailing in the opinion polls.
With the government under pressure amid
the cost of living crisis,
the chancellor’s speech to
the Commons is widely seen as one of the
final opportunities to announce major
changes to tax and spending policy before
the next national vote.

Reports of scrapping inheritance tax
in budget ‘just speculation’, says No 10

Rishi Sunak has said he intends to
send Britons to the polls next year
but opinion is split on whether an
election is likely to come in the spring or
the autumn as the Tories battle to narrow
a commanding Labour lead.
Hunt is under pressure from his right
flank to announce a sweeping package
of tax cuts to tempt voters and bolster
Sunak’s chances, with speculation that
Downing Street is considering slashing
or even abolishing inheritance tax.]

Of course, he does have the Option
to have the General Election
no later than the
28th Tuesday January 2025.
A possible cold time.

all the cabinet are completely unqualified for the roles they hold. Going across decades, there have only ever been a couple of them that are half way qualified. However, they don't need to be, they are basically managing directors of their departments, that doesn't require a deep knowledge of the subject in question

Chancellor Jeremy Hunt cuts workers' National Insurance by another 2p in the Budget, meaning it falls from 10% to 8%
He also increases the child benefit threshold from £50,000 to £60,000
Hunt says the National Insurance cut, to begin next month, is worth £450 a year for the average worker
It follows a 2p cut in last year's Autumn Statement - but there is no change to income tax
Labour leader Keir Starmer calls the Budget a "last desperate act" with people paying "more and more for less and less"
New official forecasts say the government will collect 37.1p per pound of GDP in 2028/29 - the highest level in nearly 80 years
The OBR also says the economy will grow faster than expected - that, plus some tax rises, and existing "fiscal headroom", are what's funding the cuts
Hunt also increases the VAT threshold for small businesses to £90,000, and announces higher taxes on vapes and business class flights
And he says he's "abolishing" the "non-dom" tax system, but new arrivals to the UK will still not pay taxes on foreign income for four years

Either way, it's probably not the hugest of vote-winners. I think most people would rather see themselves keeping more of their own money, than seeing money being taking from the rich.

[Labour and Tories accused of silence over cuts]

I say :Typical of Labour to follow the Conservative Cuts

[The Conservatives and Labour have been
accused of a "conspiracy of silence" over
the scale of spending cuts or tax rises
by an influential think tank.
Tough decisions would need to be made
following the next election,
the Institute for Fiscal Studies said.
Chancellor Jeremy Hunt told the BBC it
would be "challenging" to live within
current spending restrictions.

Labour says it will have to make future
savings to public spending to fund
some of its policies if it wins power.
The state of the economy is under intense focus
in the run-up to a general election that
must be called before next January.]

So far.
Pensioners don't seem very happy.

He hasn't addressed anything for them.

I was with others talking to a group of them last night who are furious they've no more help to come on energy bills.
Which are still around 65% more than just around 2 years ago
Most are going to vote LibDem now.

BBC News Text:

[The Daily Mirror, meanwhile, calls the government
"pension pinchers".
In what it calls a "Tory Budget bombshell",
millions of pensioners will now face a hit
on their incomes as a result of
"Conservative stealth taxes".
It quotes the Silver Voices campaign group
as saying this is something
older people are "hopping mad" about.]
