how surprising most of these
most main categories aside
nice nominees for best visuals
The Creator, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, two films i am going to watch very soon anyway so this has me well hyped up with these nominations
as for all other oscar nominees, never have i ever liked any oscar nominated film for best picture, doubt it would be any different now
Niamh.

I've seen 3 of them so far - Oppenheimer, Barbie & Killers of the Flower Moon, all three were very good
Lily Gladstone should win best actress and Robert Downey Jr for best supporting actor.
Hopefully Christopher Nolan finally gets the best director award.
Niamh.
23-01-2024, 03:07 PM
The supporting actress category must have been pretty poor for America Ferrera to get a nomination, it wasn't exactly a challenging role or one where an actor could shine much. Ryan Gosling as Ken was superb though, he was brilliant

i tried to watch killers of the flower moon. It's extremely well acted, but it's a long film and the subject matter is seriously depressing. It's just not for me. I actually think it's the best acting i've seen from DeNiro
…it’s always so annoying that the Oscars happen when we haven’t had the opportunity to watch all of nominations yet…it would be a perfect world if one of the streaming sites ran all of the main nominations on the lead up to the awards…

don't care about historical drama's so i doubt i will watch Oppenheimer
and Barbie, well i'm a guy so, won't watch that joke trash :joker:
Killers of the Flower Moon, not that keen on DiCaprio so
do love Mel Brooks getting honoured though  he still is so funny either (his cameo role on only murders in the building was fab, same goes for Nathan Lane being honoured, whom i also am a fan of, in Mouse Hunt and recently in that same series i earlier mentioned, great sign language acting especially from him)

I've just came up with 10 titles for any artsy Movie Directors to create, assuming they're BB fans that is.:hehe:
1. The Ass
2. The Laundrette
3. Seeing Red
4. The Coffee
5. Shadows In Love
6. Dressed By A Tailor
7. We've Got To Talk About The Patriarchy (you're welcome LT & Alf)
8. They/Them And Zir
9. Think Of The Children
10. The Conditioning
The Oscars give me my awards now, I've came up with some of your favourite dro- I mean wonderful Movie types.
I mean other suggestions could be.
11. October 7th (we all know how Hollywood loves to profit off of recent tragedies)
12. Gaza In A Bind (the sequel to October 7th from wonderful Hollywood)
13. January 6th (again it's over a tragedy, Hollywood loves that over something that's actually entertaining)
14. Dementia Presidents (a Political Thriller based on the upcoming 2024 US Election, it's something that only the critics would love, which automatically makes it Movie of the year)
15. The Leg
16. Yum! Yum! Human's Bum (a new Hannibal Lecter Film that will be sophisticated enough to get nominated, but it's too entertaining in the plebs eyes, so it's not my best work)
17. Stockholm (a wonderful Psychological Thriller delving into the minds of Serial Killer and Rapist Reginald Brump, and his captor Sofia Chekov as he slowly breaks her spirit and turns her into someone just like him. Will the Police catch them? Starring Brad Pitt as Reginald Brump, Scarlett Johansson as Sofia Chekov, Robert Downey Jr as eccentric Cop Brett Falco, and Laurence Fishburne as Brett Falco's Cop partner Patrick Cole.
And let's be real, Hollywood and the Oscars (which is essentially the same thing) would love all of these Films.
And tbh understandable in Yum! Yum! Human's Bum's case.

saw The Creator last night, deffo a deserved oscar nomination for best visuals tbh
  simply ICONIQUE how that one is made, also John David's character Joshua, his prostethic arm and leg while the actor isn't a amputee himself, so realistic
John David might not have his Dad Denzel his good looks, but the acting talent deffo runs in the family, again such a serve from him

"Tonight’s Oscars was a subtle and overt display of Jew-hatred. Hollywood stars including Billie Eilish, Finneas, Mark Ruffalo, Ava DuVernay, Ramy Youssef and Quannah Chasinghorse wore red pins that represent the group Artists4Ceasefire.
Ramy Youssef explained that the pin symbolized “justice for the people of Palestine,” adding, “it’s a universal message of just let’s stop killing kids.”
Notably absent were the yellow pins representing the hostages kidnapped by Hamas on October 7th. And that’s the point: if you’re calling for a ceasefire without calling for the release of the hostages, you are promoting Hamas’s agenda by questioning Israel's right to self-defense.
It was Hamas who barbarically attacked Israel, breaking the ceasefire on October 7th. Since then, Hamas has consistently rejected numerous ceasefire proposals. Hamas is not interested in a ceasefire, it is interested in murdering Jews and sacrificing Palestinians. If these artists cared so much about a ceasefire, they’d be applying pressure on Hamas rather than attacking Israel.
At its mildest, this is subconscious antisemitism; at its worst, deliberate attacks against Jews. Either way, it’s appalling and needs to be addressed. We cannot allow Hollywood celebrities to be manipulated into furthering Hamas’s hateful agenda around the world."

It has to be said.
Am I the only one getting a weird vibe from this picture?

It's not the same without Barry Norman.
https://plymouthartscinema.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/norman-barry-003-yellow-jumper-film-92_0.jpg
But then again, the quality of new movies these days isn't the same.
I saw a trailer on YouTube of the new up-and-coming movies and I wouldn't want to see any of them.
And Oppenheimer, that truly sounds a boring overrated load of rubbish. :p I know people who went to see it at the cinema and they all said it was too long and very boring. I don't like Cillian Murphy either. :p
Rant over! :p

As a reaction to the yellow pin calling for release of hostages, Hollywood actors started wearing red pins in support of Hamas terrorists.

Can someone please tell the actors who wore a red pin with a hand to protest the war that they used imagery Jews associate with the 2000 Ramallah lynching of two Israelis.
And you better believe that the person who designed the pin knows it.

It's probably the picture making it look very different to what you're saying.
Just ignore my paranoia on this particular situation, as I am probably wildly off base.

The bigger question that needs to be asked from both sides of this debate (because I personally value this, and I think other people should as well,) is how many of them in the picture really agree with the message that they're promoting? Because I find a lot of Celebs will do anything to look "good."
Because whilst I have no doubt that some of these Celebs in Hollywood are pro-Palestine or pro-Hamas, which is why I respect Melissa Barrera because she got fired for her support of Palestine, showing me that she really does believe in what she's telling the public, that's actually commendable imo.
Where as I get the impression that half of them in the picture would sell their Grandma if it meant having a good career in Hollywood.

do you feel embarrassed now about Oppenheimer?
no
Oppenheimer winning this many awards, is sooooo insulting towards the people of Japan
this vile idiot murdered many innocent citizens of Hiroshima, Nagasaki with his evil nuclear bomb :idc: and in these oscars they are gonna celebrate that with so many prizes
