Ecuador: State of Emergency

[Masked gunmen have broken into a
live television studio in Ecuador and
threatened terrified staff.
Employees were forced onto the floor during
the broadcast by the public television channel
TC in the city of Guayaquil before
the live feed cut out.
The attackers were later seen leaving the studio,
reportedly with several hostages.

Police have now made arrests.

A 60-day state of emergency began
in Ecuador on Monday after a
notorious gangster vanished from his prison cell.]

…I read about this yesterday, really terrifying stuff going on there atm….weirdly when I read about it, I’d only just watched the movie, Money Monster…and the plot is a show’s host and floor staff are taken hostage while they’re all live on air…meanwhile in the real world in Ecuador…..terrifying for all…

As an honorary Ecuadorian (they loved me there) this does break my heart.
Although it has never been a "safe" country that has only just descended into chaos as the media is trying to make out.
Okay Cuenca is stunning and and retiree haven.
But Guayaquil and Quito were never really all that safe.
Obviously its really bad now and hopefully it will get back in order soon.
Also the only place I have ever seen a rabid dog foaming at the mouth.

A prosecutor investigating an attack on a TV studio in Ecuador last week has been killed, officials say.

César Suárez was shot dead in the port city of Guayaquil, Guayas province on Wednesday, the attorney general said.

It is not clear whether Mr Suarez's death is linked to his investigation into the TV station attack.
