In a statement, his family said: "We are deeply
saddened to announce the passing
of Carl Weathers. "He died peacefully in his sleep

The Rocky films, Predator, Action Jackson spring to mind. He was the best character in Happy Gilmore too, one of Sandler's decent movies. Great actor, really liked him. RIP.

Legendary! I remember watching that entrance as a kid, loved it, still do. Easily my favourite Rocky film too, as cheesy as it is.

A great shame. Loved his screen persona. He had such a warm and friendly, good-natured air about him, in addition to being a badass in films like Rocky and Predator.

It's easy to forget the impact he had on the Rocky films, he really did help shape the success of those movies. And Apollo Creed's legacy lives on with all the Creed movies made.

…yeah, I know that it’s an obvious thing to say but for there to be a Rocky, there had to be an Apollo and Carl Weathers was perfect as that character because he provided that adversary/the opponent and ‘enemy’ in the ring…but was everything that gained respect and friendship outside of the ring…?….Carl Weathers created someone that was very multi faceted and believable as a character because as an opponent, he mirrored and matched the hero of the movies…and it’s rare that we’re equally led to love both characters…
