View Full Version : How do you deal with things?
My scenario..
People you meet and they know all about you, your name, the places or things you did together years ago...but you cant for the life of you place the face to a name..
How do you get round the awkwardness?
I just keep talking until it becomes obvious ( usually)

He was in the pub I popped into after work for a quickie.(first time in a year, go me!)
Luckily he went to the toilet, giving me the chance to ask Pawdie, the barman. "Who the **** is that"
Pawdie told me his name, unfortunately I was none the wiser.so I gave him ten more minutes calling him by his nickname when he came back down. Downed the pint and left.
Feel safe and snug now at home.
I will try and upload a photo via tapatalk.
I think I'd just tell them straight up that I didn't mean to offend them, but I honestly couldn't remember who they were. *shrug*
I actually had someone in a van bib me and wave to me as I was walking down the street the other day. Spent the rest of the walk wondering who the hell they were. It was quite the puzzler.
This is him..I mean, I dont believe I did anything with you in the 90s. I would have remembered https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240209/bd05bc13a7c19dc72009373e964c4a44.jpg

Sadly with my dreadful memory this is a fairly common occurrence…

I get about 4 beeps per walk. So I usually constantly gawp at all the traffic and the drivers as the approach just incase they beep and wave. People I dont know must think I'm a bloodyl loony!
Notes.. Stop staring at traffic parmy..

Definitely a stalker parm
It was definitely an opportunity to use the line from snatch
If you don’t mind me asking, who the fcuk are you?
i've never experienced that. I've met thousands of people over the years and I wouldn't have a clue if I was asked to name them. I just never acknowledge anyone that is not in my friendship group and that's how most people behave in my experience

Last time I did that in that pub was the last time I was in that pub.
Hearts rangers Scottish cup final, first time out back in Scotland after moving back from Essex. Some young wido hibs fan winding me up about the score when it was 1-0..I took it, but when he jumped in my face at rangers 2nd goal, I snapped, and in my head I said those words in the most cockney of cockney voices, before landing one on him. It was my only one, and slowest one ever.
Rather embarrassing at 4.30 on a Saturday.
But Pawdies a good Irish man. He understands.
So there is another scenario..
How would you have dealt with that.

Yeah, but it's the fact he knew me, and was all over me a bit when I walked in, like a long lost brother or something! I was wise enough not to say to him who I was guessing he was in my own head. Cause that would have been embarrassing

Bit random that you’d take a photo of him and then post his picture on the internet presumably without his permission?

He wanted me to take it.

Being slowly punched by an old man as a young man.
He looks like a good solid pub man
I'm terrible with names but better with faces. There's still been times though where I've not recognised someone and it's a bit awkward as you frantically search your memory. Just keep saying 'good to see you' over and over while shaking their hand and that'll get you through it
you don't really need to say anyones name unless you are trying to attract their attention, so it should be possible to have an entire conversation without issue:laugh:

Because I don’t drink and I’m pretty alert when out I more more than like grab his arm or moved out of the way
Some one I know is being investigated for hitting an old man in a pub
The poor old boy died

Funny thing is...it was both our first time back in a pub in over a year. Both just out of the blue decisions.

I was lucky to walk away with a staved pinkie, a ripped coat and a sunday full off the fear.
