Crystal Palace say manager Roy Hodgson was "taken ill" during training on Thursday morning.

Palace cancelled a news conference after the 76-year-old fell ill.

It was widely reported on Thursday morning that Palace are set to sack Hodgson, with the club 15th in the Premier League and five points clear of the relegation zone.

Palace face Everton at Goodison Park in the Premier League on Monday.

BBC Sport understands that Hodgson is set to lose his job, with former Eintracht Frankfurt boss Oliver Glasner a strong favourite to replace him.

Hodgson took charge of his 200th match as Palace manager earlier this week, but his side were beaten 3-1 at Selhurst Park by Chelsea.

They let all the press know that they were going to sack him today, and they wonder why he has taken ill. They should be ashamed

On the day it was revealed that the decision to replace him imminently has been made …

Must be stress / heart related ?

they could easily have dealt with his retirement quietly and thanked him for his service rather than leaking to the press that they were going to sack him. He deserved better than that

They were preparing to sack him after he came out of retirement and saved them last season. If any other organisation leaked that they were about to sack their employee and named them, they would be taken to court

I have no sympathy for Palace .. they lost their nerve and sacked Patrick Viera just after a run of bad results against a glut of top 8 teams …

Then Woy took over just as a stream of bottom level teams came along and it looked like he had performed miracles

Woy was originally sacked due to poor results and absolutely dire football and now they are surprised to be in exactly the same position

That's what I'm thinking.

And I'm not just saying this because of his current health situation, but who does Palace seriously think will do better with the current squad that they have? Hodgson imo is pulling off a miracle with a team that really struggles to score goals, if Palace want to finish higher up the table then they should've bought a couple of Strikers in the Summer, not fire the Manager.

The new guy has a reputation for taking a struggling squad and getting good results quickly .. he’s been successful where ever he’s been … apparently

That's fair enough.

But unless he gets given money to spend in the Summer, he'll be another victim of being blamed for the strikers at Palace being poor.
