It's a complete nightmare. My landlord keeps raising the rent.
I just feel trapped.
I'm hoping I can save some money to move.
Might need to get a second job.
I don't think I can afford another raise.
So I'm making plans to move as soon as I'm able.

Look around and see, if like Ammi said in your other thread, if any landlords are offering no deposit rentals.

How long do you have left on your current tenancy? Have you checked in the small print about if you end your tenancy early? I know you get Housing Benefit, will that increase if your rent is put up?

Vanessa if you own a property in Italy have you thought about maybe getting a mortgage here in the UK using the property in Italy as collateral, even a little studio it would be your own? There are some 100% mortgages now and you could get at least a 25 year term, it would be yours to sell at any point....something to think about?

It is but you will need to be quick, and dont forget all landlords are more or less the same at the moment the rent will go up every year so be careful you dont jump out of the pan into the fire

Private rental is so expensive, but I suppose the landlord will say they have to pay the mortgage.
Thankfully after years of renting my daughter is getting on the property ladder. Fingers crossed it all goes well, her mortgage will be lower than her rent, win win.

Renting looking to buy - at this point it's just a matter of the right house coming up (we don't want to leave the area, and essentially can't go far because I'd never force my daughter to switch schools). We're ready to buy though so as soon as the right place comes up, fingers crossed, we will be in it.

The rental and housing market in general is in a very scary place right now - it's not just high rents, we're currently in the position where if our landlord decided to sell up or something, there are no houses. There's NOTHING appropriate to rent for us. A few flats that are not big enough for a family of 4. And I don't mean too expensive, money isn't an issue... I mean they simply do not exist. When good rentals do come up, they have 70 - 100 applications. It's insane and only going to get worse both in terms of availability and pricing... the house price market is relatively stable at the moment but rents are not following suit - demand still outstrips supply, rents are going to continue going up and up.

Basically I feel very grateful to be in a position where we CAN buy ASAP... and will feel much more secure when we have. I think if you want housing security in 5 to 10 years time you need to own your property. It's scarily enough, pretty much that simple.

I think that has been the case for years now, not in 5 to 10 years time, I remember when we came to London first and we rented, being in a queue to rent a property and it wasn't even a very nice one, I am glad you are finally able to get on the property ladder, :love: I can't imagine how unstable it is renting with kids

It's not much, but better than nothing. I could not pay the rent without it.
They've asked me about a bank account that has been closed for 10 years! I've been trying to get evidence that it's closed.
But it's harder to get it, because bank records don't go that far.

I love the house and it's a great area. Really close to my workplace. It really feels like home. Don't want to move unless I have to.
