View Full Version : Were you an accident or a planned child ?
Just watching the Ozark series and the main guy’s wife mentioned that she was an ‘accident’ … an unplanned birth .
It just got me thinking….
I’m an only child and my mum was in her thirties when I came along .. now that was old back in the late nineteen fifties .
I just have this vague recollection of someone mentioning that I wasn’t planned and that ties in maybe .. maybe it’s just false memory syndrome or my mind playing tricks
Neither of my parents are around to ask so I guess I’ll never know unless one of my relatives knows and I remember to casually ask them at a future family gathering ..
What about you people ?

I was neither planned nor unplanned - I was conceived in wedlock, but my parents weren't actively trying nor avoiding creating me.
…I was a Catholic and I think those Catholics knew exactly what they were doing and all potential outcomes etc…so no accident…
…there were two boys first and then there was the right one…?……that’s what I used to say to dad…

My mum was an only one and had quite a lonely childhood at home (she grew up with just her Dad who worked long hours) so my parents always planned for 2 kids and I was the younger

My Mom only wanted to have two children initially, but then about 6-7 years later after giving birth to my Brother, she I think got convinced to have another one because my Uncle (my Mom's Brother) had just had a Daughter (obviously his Wife gave birth, not my Uncle lol,) and my Mom got attached to her, and then she decided (along with my Dad,) to have another child, which ended up being me.
Time will tell if that was the right decision or not lol.
Not unplanned per se, but a little unexpected. My parents had tried for a baby twice before, and one of the babies died during birth, and the other baby died within hours of being born iirc (kinda dodgy memory about it, as understandably my parents never wanted to go into it). I think my parents had maybe just about given up when I came along, I dunno.

…so very much heartbreak and sadness for them…I’m so glad that they experienced the joy of you also, in their lives……

Update !!
I was planned. …. Whoo hoo !!
Just mentioned to the wife my musings on this matter and she said “ oh god no .. your parents waited 13 years until the time was right” ( family and financially -wise )
So that’s nice …

I was a mistake! I was born less than a year after my sister, who was the firstborn.

Wow deep question. I actually don't know. But I wish my parents didn't have sex. I didn't ask to be here

Btw I'm surprised at how many people know if they were planned or unplanned. Did you actually ask your parents "was I planned?" Or is it just a conclusion you came to from things they've said over the years?

Just think of all of the crazy **** that you'd have missed out on, if you were never born? The barmy nature of life is probably one of the most fun things about it (away from your friends, family, and Birmingham City.)

My daughter was born less than a year after my son. While she wasn't exactly planned, I wouldn't call her a mistake, more like an extra blessing. I'm sure your parents felt the same.

I was planned, my mother always wanted four kids and I was her 4th. My dad didn't have as much of a say.
