…that looks like a very aged tree…it looks as though it’s seen many changes and transformations etc in the area and many stories to tell…and now it’s transformed ready for spring……

Banksy mural in Finsbury Park vandalised three days after it appeared…

A new Banksy mural in North London has been defaced three days after it was first revealed in Finsbury Park.

Two streaks of white paint appeared on the green artwork on Hornsey Road in Finsbury Park on Wednesday morning.

The work first appeared on a residential building in north London on Sunday before the anonymous street artist confirmed it was his in an Instagram post on Monday.

The art piece features swathes of green behind a pared back tree to give the appearance of leaves, with a stencil of a person holding a pressure hose next to it.

Someone’s vandalised the Banksy overnight. Gutted. Why can’t people let a community be happy without trying to ruin it. pic.twitter.com/EuY0nfh5tT

— Amy (@psychologyamyb) March 20, 2024

Amy, who shares a wall with the new Banksy artwork, spotted the white paint splattered on the mural and on the fence protecting it when she got up to go to the gym on Wednesday morning.

The resident, who only gave her first name, said the vandalism looked like a “drive by incident”.

She told the Standard: “It’s a real mess, frustrating something hasn’t been able to be organised to protect it sooner.

“It was done from the other side of the fence as the paint has hit the fence and the floor in front of it.”

The Hornsey Road resident added that the Banksy had been a “total surprise” and that she did not hear anything when the artwork was put up or vandalised.

If you do it at 3AM
who will notice him?

…he is sometimes …(…and maybe often…)…seen…but it’s not realised what he’s doing exactly as night time repair/maintenance people work through these areas as well …and before it’s realised that it’s ‘a Banksy’, he’s been and gone…he’s very quick because of using stencils and all of his materials and planning is done beforehand and prepared for speed…

Ammi
20-03-2024, 05:01 PM
…quite a few times I’ve read that someone has said they saw him/talked to him etc and hadn’t realised it was him…they thought it was whatever maintenance being done that he was claiming to be…

There is one on the old prison at reading on the outside
That too had white paint chucked at it they put a sheet of Perspex over it for protection

…I’m sure that’s not the look/vibe he intended and for my thoughts, it would be more representing him and his work to just leave it with the white paint and have it open…he’s not a new kid in the block as it were…and he does know that his works are open to others ‘adding’ to them…yes, it’s a Banksy and that’s a fabulous thing for that community…but that’s all just a bit too and ‘overly precious’, I think…Free the Banksy…!!!!!!!…

[I’m sure that’s not the look/vibe he intended]

Yes bloody pain of a big Banksy.

All that Good Wood
a local could had their fence fixed
better use of strong wood.

That splashed on white paint ain't art.

Ammi
28-03-2024, 07:20 AM
…yeah, I’m totally with you, Arista…a graffiti artist is quite aware that their works can be and often are ‘added to’ …but having them ‘contained’ like that in such a way is just ugggghhhhh…how can that not be much, much more ‘vandalised’ than the white paint….and such a bad use of resources when councils are crying under-funding….they could have put some pencils in classrooms for that big dollar action….

Sure
but it is now all over the world
international visitors.

If it was left there no added white paint,
no Perspex, it would have been fine.

If it was protected it would be destroyed
It’s not the local p1ss head thats trying to destroy these pieces
But now I’m thinking while writing this that’s banksy himself doing the attempted attack because this latest one you would go for the man

Hence the attack making the news spreading it’s location and that it’s a new piece
