I’ve been to Bradford. I’m sure there’s more than just one murderer running around on the loose.

Bradford stabbing: Murder suspect was on bail for 'threats to kill' at time

A man suspected of stabbing a mother to death in Bradford city centre was on bail at the time for allegedly threatening to kill her, it has emerged.

West Yorkshire Police have launched a manhunt for Habibur Masum - who is wanted on suspicion of murdering 27-year-old Kulsuma Akter while she pushed her baby in a pram on Saturday.

According to the PA news agency, Masum was conditionally bailed in November after being charged with assaulting and threatening to kill Ms Akter - who is from Oldham, Greater Manchester.

Both offences were alleged to have happened in Manchester.

Court documents seen by PA say the 25-year-old man had pleaded not guilty to both offences at a hearing on 27 November and was ordered by Manchester Magistrates' Court not to contact Ms Akter.

Masum's bail conditions also prevented him from contacting a second unnamed person or visiting a particular address.

West Yorkshire Police have referred themselves to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) watchdog as they had previous contact with Ms Akter.

Greater Manchester Police also referred themselves to the IOPC because they had contact with both Masum and Ms Akter.

…I don’t know how the bail system works but this was avoidable, had bail been refused because he presented a danger….and yet, there’s discussions of criminalising homelessness while someone who has threatened life is released on bail…/…the legal system is skewed and feels ineffective atm…

…it really is crazy, Mock…the police advice has been not to approach as he’s deemed dangerous and yet he’s seen as someone who is eligible for bail…there really is no logic being followed in terms of public safety…the police referring themselves to an independent office of investigation now is really meaningless to the family/loved ones of his victim who he had openly expressed a life threat to…

I 100% agree with you Ammi.

I honestly don't get the logic in this situation at all.

Lets face it the police do not take threats to womens lives seriously, we have seen this time and time again with multiple avoidable deaths of women if only the threat to their lives had been taken seriously by the police, its far too easy to brush it off by referring themselves to the watchdog which like serious case reviews when little kiddies are murdered happen time and time again with no positive resolution.

[Habibur Masum was detained early on Tuesday
morning following the death of
27-year-old Kulsuma Akter on Saturday.

Detectives said they had arrested a
25-year-old man in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire.

The arrest followed a nationwide manhunt for
Mr Masum, after Ms Akter's death in the
city centre attack. Her baby was unharmed.

Det Ch Insp Stacey Atkinson, of West Yorkshire Police,
said the arrest followed a "tragic incident in which
a mother has lost her life in the most
horrific of circumstances".]

This type of thing should never happen

Id throw the damn judge who passed bail into prison until he can justify his/her decision
