A priest has been stabbed multiple times while delivering Mass at a Sydney church, a live stream appears to have shown.

The incident comes just days after a man killed six people in a Westfield shopping centre.

Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel was leading a service at Wakely’s Christ The Good Shepherd Church when he appeared to have been stabbed multiple times by a man who approached him at the altar.

A young man dressed in all black approached him before repeatedly stabbing him in the face and body as onlookers attempted to intervene.

Horrified screams can be heard by parishioners before the live feed of the Mass, which was being shown on YouTube, was immediately cut off.

New South Wales police said they were responding to the incident, which took place just after 7pm, according to Sky News Australia.

[A prominent Sydney preacher is among four people
who have been stabbed at a church in the
western Sydney suburb of Wakeley on
Monday evening, sparking a mass riot on the streets.

The incident is understood to have unfolded
at Christ The Good Shepherd Church
in Wakeley about 7.15pm.

New South Wales Police earlier told
SkyNews.com.au two people had been
attacked but NSW Ambulance later clarified
the figure was four.

Details of the attack are yet to be confirmed
but the sole offender is in custody.
Large crowds of people and multiple
first responders remain at the scene.

"Officers arrested a male and he is
assisting police with inquiries," NSW Police said.

The offender, however, remains under the watch
of police inside the church and has not been
moved to a police vehicle yet, according to

Tbf, regardless of what community a Terrorist comes from, they are all evil scumbags.

And if we're going to generalize, I will say that Muslims and Christians are the two most likely Religions to commit a Terrorist act, if negative stereotypes start happening because of that, then these communities need to ask themselves "why are we the group that's getting this broad generalization?" And do something about it.

And controversially this can be said for every other negative stereotypes that are attached to other communities, if you don't like it then look at why the negative stereotype is so deeply associated with your community.

And every community has negative stereotypes, but the best thing to do is not play into them.

I personally try to see both points of view, I know that can be seen as fencesitting, but I do like to operate on a case by case perspective, and see which perspective that I agree with.

Police in Australia have arrested seven teenagers who posed an "unacceptable risk and threat" to the community in the wake of the stabbing of a bishop in a Sydney church.

The teenagers, all aged between 15 and 17, are accused of being part of a network that follows a violent extremist ideology.

That network included a 16-year-old who has been charged with committing a terrorist act after Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel was stabbed during a service at the Assyrian Christ the Good Shepherd Church on 16 April.

Following the alleged terrorist attack, New South Wales Police deputy commissioner David Hudson said "a number of associates were identified" which authorities believed warranted further police attention.

An investigation was launched by the Joint Counter-Terrorism Team, which comprises federal and state police as well as Australia's national security agency and which specialises in extremists and organised crime.

"We will allege that these individuals adhered to a religiously motivated, violent extremist ideology," Mr Hudson said.

"It was considered that the group... posed an unacceptable risk and threat to the people of New South Wales, and our current purely investigative strategies could not adequately ensure public safety."

More than 400 police officers executed 13 search warrants at properties across southwest Sydney during the investigation but no evidence of specific targets or timing of an intended "violent act" was found, police said.

Five other teenagers are still being questioned by the Joint Counter-Terrorism Team.

It comes after an Australian Federal Court judge extended an order banning social media platform X from showing videos of the bishop being repeatedly stabbed.

Justice Geoffrey Kennett extended the ban, which the court put in place on Monday, until 10 May.

The ban was met with criticism from X chief executive Elon Musk, who accused Australia of censorship.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese later berated Musk, calling him an "arrogant billionaire who thinks he's above the law".
