At first I thought it was a problem with his autocue but it became clear it wasn't that.
He was as though he couldn't get his words out, constantly stumbling over and almost slurring what he was saying and not making much sense at times. His left eye kept squinting almost shut too. He did the full news broadcast like this too, was quite concerning. Was half expecting him to be replaced midway through but he wasn't.
I really hope he's okay. :fc:
….ahhhhh, poor guy…he did so well to get through it and he’s obviously now getting medical care…I hope he’s ok……
Rageh Omaar: ITV host receiving medical care after becoming unwell live on air
ITV News presenter Rageh Omaar is receiving medical care after becoming "unwell" live on air, ITV has said.
Omaar, 56, was presenting the channel's News at Ten programme on Friday when he appeared to be struggling to read the bulletins.
The incident sparked widespread concern on social media.
Omaar serves as International Affairs Editor at ITV News and was formerly a foreign correspondent for the BBC.
"We are aware that viewers are concerned about Rageh Omaar's wellbeing," an ITV News spokesperson said.
"Rageh became unwell while presenting News at Ten on Friday and is now receiving medical care.
"He thanks everyone for their well wishes."
No further details of Omaar's condition or what happened to him during the broadcast have been released.
However, ITV pulled the programme from its scheduled re-runs on ITV+1, with a message instead telling viewers that ITV was "temporarily unable to bring you our +1 service".
"We will resume shortly," it read.
Omaar first rose to prominence covering the war in Iraq for the BBC in 2003.
He now covers major news stories across the world for ITV News and also presents current affairs programme On Assignment.
Hopefully nothing too serious, does look like signs of a stroke
Very poor of ITV to have him do a whole half hour bulletin if this was happening throughout it
…also, if it was a TIA (mini-stroke…)…or something similar…the important thing with medical assessment is speed..so allowing him to continue and complete the segment wasn’t good…

Funnily enough, I commented on this last night. He really did struggle to get his words out. Feel awful though because I said I thought he sounded like he had a few drinks
When i had my stroke, it was no more than 30 seconds from feeling unwell to being unconscious although i've heard of others where it took much longer. It very much depends what area of the brain is affected

Tbf you didn't know.
A stroke will sound like someone being on a pisser if you don't know the signs to look for.

How on earth ITV left him to present for half an hour is honestly quite disgraceful.

Well speaking from experience with my Mom, I think that we found her having a stroke too late, so timing I do agree with you that timing is of the essence when we're talking about strokes.

…the important thing is that hopefully any delay that may have happened, hasn’t had a significant health impact for him…anything beyond that between him and the network…well, that’s for him to decide…
…I’m really glad he’s ok and atm, resting in the care of his family…I hope that he only returns when he’s fully ready and recovered…

Yes i watched as well and thought exactly the same - autocue problems, he was very professional to carry on, it looked a bit like he had a mini stroke. He'll be getting good medical care. I wish him the best.

[ITV have been hit by a wave of Ofcom complaints
after Rageh Omaar was struck by a mystery illness
while presenting the News at Ten.
Viewers were left concerned for the
presenter after he began to struggle with his
words during an item on
weekend leisure time near the end
of the programme on Friday.
ITV bosses later revealed they had
attempted to pull the 56-year-old off air,
but he had insisted that he continued
and was taken straight to hospital after
the show.]
