[Instead youngsters prefer more modern
insults such as “don’t be a Karen”, or “you’re so basic”
[Brits under the age of 28 didn’t have a clue what a “cad”]
[Gen Z said they’d never heard of it – while other
put-downs labelled “old fashioned” are berk, nitwit,
numpty and git.]

I'm over 28 and I can't say I've heard any of those insults from my contemporaries +/- 5ish years in ... god knows.

Just watched a news item about this and a young man when asked what he would use as an insult and he replied ' you wet wipe'

I can't keep up with all the ever interchanging new slang terms, I do wonder how many teenagers for e.g ....still use terms like " soooo lame" & "whatever" ...those are old fashioned now.

Okay, thanks.
Machismo is the word that I remember was the word that I remember being used to describe someone like that, it's weird how words change so quickly.

Gen Z? I've not heard many people under 50 use any of these terms other than ironically :joker:.
What sort of news story is this anyway? "People don't use our old-fashioned gammon insults any more! *sniffle*"
Though it is The Star of course.
Fear not! Anyone who regularly used any of these words will be dead within the next decade or two and then no one will have to get upset about it. Silly gits.

That is one thing they shouldnt be used for, but the youth do on their precious little asses. Then what do they do? Flush em down the bog thats what, looking at the shite floating away in disgust, much like the look they give to the back of a chatty old man whome they blame for the climate problems that hes leaving them as he shuffles towards his last conversation.
Ye might have taken oor freedom, but yel never take oor numpties.
Everything is "literally" with the youngsters today.

Why are people bothered about what gen z is doing? They're no different from any other younger generation who thought they had all the answers and made up their own words. In twenty years they'll be considered worthless oldies by a whole new generation of young people thinking they're special.
Incidentally, hardly anyone uses Shakespearean insults any more. It's not breaking news.
