So since I even half expected that.
Further up than that is a bonus for me.
Actually for me, Switzerland, Croatia and France the top 3 is a pleasing result
I voted Croatia.
The UK with Olly wasn't in its usual very close to or in last place .

He'll go and party and be genuinely pleased for the winner and runner up.
I actually had the thought, after the juries vote
His song Dizzy, the title Dizzy, that the staging for Nemo and Switzerland being spun around would have been more appropriate.
At least there's no announcement to come on the news that the UK has come LAST AGAIN in Eurovision.
That's an improvement in itself apart from the whatever happened re.Sam Ryder in 2022.

So, so funny and well deserved
Its only funny or poignant if you're thick; Israel/Palestine is the number 1 divisive issue of the day and only one side of that issue was represented for public vote. The high number was inevitable and, also, politically meaningless in the absense of a "vote Palestine" option. I'm sure you do realise that on some level.
What I think IS politically very telling is that Switzerland won. Internationally synonymous with neutrality and both jury and public were all over it. Fascinating sociology there.

The zero points from the tele votes was expected but slightly unjust, but we can’t just keep sending basic, average pop songs you could hear any day on the radio, next year we should actually take a risk and do something completely out of the box like Ireland did this year, what we’re sending is very obviously just not standing out in the fields of risky, original songs

I personally don't like the trend of countries sending established acts and celebrities, in my view that was never really the point! I normally agree with this completely, because it does make for pretty boring results when the winner is obvious right from the off, but thank god Loreen was there last year so that other idiot didn’t win

it was meant to be a way of discovering new talent across europe, then the uk decided they wanted to win it so sent along Cliff Richard, Lulu and Sandi Shaw, to name 3 well established artists at the time. So i don't blame other countries for sending along top talent now

Yeeeah but the best of Eurovision (in my opinionion) is when relative unknowns are discovered. Like I think locally-known acts are OK too but if they already have Europe-wide fame it seems a bit outside what the show in the modern era has been about.

1. Croatia - I even voted for it, which I rarely ever do on Eurovision.
2. Switzerland - Despite the Juries blatant rigging, the song is very good tbf.
3. Ireland
4. Ukraine - I do like the singer's voice from this entry.
5. Norway - It's a shame that they came last, like Germany last year they've been harshly placed imo. They were better than a lot of the other songs I feel.
6. Estonia
7. Finland
8. Serbia
9. Slovenia
10. Latvia
11. Israel
12. Austria - It was a catchy number tbf, even if her style of Music was oversaturated this year.

Nearly typical.
We are usually sniffing around the bottom 3 only and sometimes not getting any points at all.
This was a vast improvement on last year even when it was held in the UK.
Politics does play a part in the voting though.
It seems contributing to our poor results, that the UKs image isn't improving around the World.
I haven't a clue what will help the UK at Eurovision.
At least we haven't the cost of staging it next year plus all the unrest of probably more demonstrations.
Especially if nothing is near sorted in the Israel/Gaza conflict.

Until any artiste can do more to get the public votes.
The UK will no matter who it puts in.
Never do well.
This was a good improvement on last year.and many years positions.
On the jury votes the UK was in the top half.
However the public vote just didn't as usual give anything to the UK.
One country only got 1 vote and how Austria' got only 5 votes tom the public is mystifying.
It may help if like other Nations, instead of running the UK and the artiste/s efforts down.
Britons got behind their entry like other Nations.
What happened in Sam Ryder's year I haven't a clue.
His was one song I didn't care for.
Although would have loved him to win.
Most juries gave the UK no votes, then 3 others 6 and 8.
Belgium, Iceland and Sweden.
The rest of western Europe, and Eastern Europe, nothing.
I'm always left wondering about the voting on Eurovision.
However for me.
Avoiding the last 3 and avoid having no points at all is about all the UK can hope for.
I really doubt we'd win or do really well
I just think the UKs image worldwide means across the World, we're overlooked more than not.
Staging may have been a factor too.
France for instance had a microphone that was all and he came 3 rd.
Staging however cannot be blamed for our dismal showing last year.
Second last being one of our more usual positions.
Unless a group, maybe toosny others onstage doesn't help.
The top 3 had limited staging and no extras onstage really.
It's best treated as like a festival performance for most Nations.
Not a serious competition.
I still say well done Olly, he deserved better but then so did many others too who got very few votes too.
Eurovision is a really cranky and crazy event
However great fun too.

Staging was tbe reason Norway came last. It was really weird.

Thank **** Israel didn’t win in the end.
Osterdahl needs to resign.
Delighted for Nemo. Wanted Croatia. Intrigued as to how Switzerland host a modern Eurovision. You know how the likes of Sweden and Italy do it because they’re just upscaled versions of their NFs.

Ireland did better than I expected and I hated the song.
Israel were great admittedly.

Agreed on both points

the simple truth is that there were many songs this year that were better than the uk entry, so even before politics enters into it, we were going to be well down the list. Having caused an almighty mess with the EU over brexit, those countries would mark us down on principle, and then our vocal support for Israel, just saw off the rest of potential voters.
I also didn't think his performance was very strong on the night, there were worse for sure, but there were also a lot that nailed their vocals, and he just didn't

the sound was so muted and his voice is awful
a bad combination on the night

I haven't watched Eurovision since Terry Wogan, and even in his day I stopped watching it a long time ago.
It's always been political & a big joke, it's just gotten worse over the years . If they've introduced judges now ...then that will likely just make it more bias in ways.
Even when Ukraine won with the UK finishing behind, it was obvious why that was. Sam Ryder could have been out of tune ,and dressed as a telly tubby and it probably would have been the same result  .

well consider me a bully then lol, i'm proud of that
juries have been a part of the show since the first year. It's only in recent years they included the public vote because everyone said the juries were crap. So, it's nothing new

Missed it last night so just been catching up. I do think the Israeli woman is incredibly brave to have carried out performances all week in the face of such hostility and seemingly without putting a foot wrong or ever showing any signs of the immense pressure she was under. It's actually quite inspirational and she genuinely delivered a really good performance
Armenia was my favourite though

The racy looking blonde was fine but the other one looked to have a brush stuck down the back of her dress .. so stiff and wooden with zero charisma
