Pope Francis allegedly told a closed-door meeting of Italian bishops not to
allow gay men to train for the priesthood, with two Italian newspapers
reporting that the Pope used Italian slang for homosexuals during the course
of the conversation.
Citing sources who had attended the meeting, the Corriere della Sera and La
Repubblica newspapers claimed that the 87-year-old Pontiff had said there is
“frociaggine” – which translates in English to f*g**try” – in some of the
seminaries.
Many received the Pope’s comments with surprise, as Francis has often been
perceived by some as a liberal reformer when it comes to the Church’s stance
on homosexuality.
So you know how Pope Francis is generally portrayed as a big cuddly liberal?
He has just used perhaps the most offensive homophobic term in Italian
(basically f*g**t) while calling on bishops not to accept any seminarians who are gay.

Priests are supposed to be celibate so I don't see how he would know someones sexual preference or why it would even matter since none of them are supposed to be having "relations" with anyone, male or female

Meh. You can't erase politics without erasing people entirely, and when it comes down to it religion is just politics but with added spooky bits.

They're also explicitly not supposed to judge the actions of others on earth even if they believe that person will be judged by God eventually - they're supposed to love unconditionally, leave people to their own path, and trust that it'll all be sorted out on Judgement Day. Taking judgement into their own hands is actually blasphemous.
But hey let's not let the technicalities of Christianity get in the way of some good old fashioned religious outrage.

Plus we all know most of them aren't celibate anyway :idc: Thanks for confirming Padre

[Vatican apologises after Pope Francis uses
derogatory term for gay men
The Pope reportedly uses a derogatory
term towards gay men in a private meeting
with bishops - where he is said to have
reiterated they should not be allowed to become priests.

He was thinking about his evening meal and made a mistake
He was just saying he fancied a pizza rather than what he usually gets served up on a Sunday

Indeed
old man says something he shouldn't shocker
…tbf, what nationality is he…Argentinian…?…he wouldn’t have been speaking his first language in speaking Italian, so it might not always translate exactly as intended…

there are several levels of interpretation .... Spanish to Italian and then Italian to english .... all of that leads to misinterpretation .
The guy comes from a different generation, he is allowed to speak whats on his mind due to his position, where others of a similar age wouldn't get the opportunity. People can't help thinking what they think and as we get older stuff slips out that we would perhaps phrase better given an opportunity.
Its what happens when you give elderly people a microphone
All that being said, it highlights what people really think, and i would rather know that than not and have it all hushed up. We at least now know what the leadership of the catholic church are thinking

…I’m not sure that it was what was on his mind though…but more that he has caused some kerfuffles before in some things he’s said which have been translated, using slang…(…or in this case, a derogatory and offensive term…)…and not fully realised the meaning….he has seemed quite accepting in many things that the Catholic Church hasn’t previously been and his apology was very immediate and gracious and fully acknowledging that he had offended but not knowingly at the time…(…is what I’m thinking…)…

I agree, it's unfortunate but was probably partly caused by the language barrier. Francis has actually done a lot for LGBT relations with the Church generally but he is also prone to erratic moments and putting his foot in it. Plus he is still Catholic after all so he will hold views that a lot of people won't like

The guy is the head of a cult that has allowed probably millions of children to be sexually abused by pedophiles
he should be in jail
this is the same guy that told ukraine to raise the white flag and accept defeat by russia
I feel the anger. I also find it disgusting when football fans use the offensive slang for Manchester City by referring to them as "City"
Being from Hull. "City" is Hull City.
I'm sure the people of Coventry, Leicester, Stoke, Bristol, Norwich, York, Birmingham, Cardiff, Bradford, Chester, Lincoln Salford, Swansea and Exeter all feel the same as me.

I think that the Pope has been getting up to some dirty business if you catch my drift.
Some hot young 70 year old from Tamworth I bet.
