… class yourself as having been to a place if you only pass it in the car and don’t actually step out? Do you class yourself as having been to Peckham if you’ve never actually ventured into it besides driving through Old Kent Road, or Germany if you’re only there in some Munich/Berlin airport?

…just to be difficult……I would say something in the vein of…I passed through/drove through/stopped for a connecting flight or whatever, one time…I wouldn’t class myself as having visited as such, I’d be a bit more specific with that situation you’re describing, Redway…

it depends. There are many villages that consist of one street. If you go through the village, you have seen it all. London, on the other hand is a bit different

Surprisingly interesting question (for you) LOL

I don’t think you can say you’ve somewhere unless you’ve spent a few hours walking around said place . At best you can say you drove through somewhere..

We went on a 36hr coach trip to the South of France and the driver said “we are just stopping to refuel in Paris if you want to stretch your legs and be able to say you’ve been to Paris “

We didn’t bother and went back to sleep

Technically anyone who's been just outside of Euston Station has been to Camden. That's some people's only claim to having visited Camden besides maybe driving/being driven through it. You can decide for yourself whether that's a good or a bad thing.

St Helens (it's a town between Liverpool and Manchester) doesn't have a lot of stuff going on besides what you can conjure up with your mates, and maybe a few decent shops. If you've been out of the car for as little as 5 minutes, you've been to St Helens.

Spot on. My hometown is not exactly a tourist attraction  and its got some really rough areas. The town centre has gone drastically downhill and to make matters worse the powers that be have decided to knock down the main shops in the Hardshaw Centre and turn it into a new bus station for chrissakes. We already have a perfectly adequate one, it's only a small town. Gone are the good old days of St Helens nightlife also. You'd have to pay me to go round town on a Friday/Saturday night there now.

Just the airport haha

…I guess that if you went through passport control and into the main airport then it was a proper actual visit to Dubai……

I've been to Dubai airport on the way to the Maldives. Loads of shops selling bars of gold. I had never seen anything like it before
