At last something has clicked in Starmer’s brain …
If he had ANY sense whatsoever he will have emergency meetings with the armed forces .. this could easily escalate far past the police force
It’s probably just dawning on him just how huge the job is and how easy it was to stand opposite Boris all those times endlessly slagging him off

Boris was the only one of the past three who had a mandate from the public. He was voted in, the others slimed in behind him.

I get slaughtered for liking Boris but I am a good judge of character and see a ‘kindness’ in Boris that is completely absent in all the other politicians ( all parties)
I have no political affiliation/ persuasion.

Are you awake yet?
Just to put this into perspective for you that are old enough to remember the James Bulger murder. And the anger at that time from the public. The Prime Minister is basically saying that all those who were angry at the James Bulger murder are far-right.
If John Major had have said that then, he would have been made to resign the next day. The public would have demanded it by any means necessary.
That's how far we've fallen as a people and handed over our power to the people who are supposed be our representatives.

So long as the gap is smaller, they’d rather have the poor poorer.

[Starmer said that he will stick to his
general election campaign pledge that
he will not increase income tax,
VAT or national insurance on
“working people”.
He said that spending cuts and tax rises
are not the only levers the Treasury
has at its disposal.
The prime minister stressed that his
government will focus on growing
the economy, and says fixing the
transport system and the NHS will both help this.
He acknowledged, though, that he will
have to take “tough decisions”
to plug the black hole left by the
Tories but did not specify what these
decisions will be.
Starmer was asked specifically if spending cuts
are being considered. The prime minister said
he won’t “pre-empt the chancellor” in
relation to the 30 October budget.
There is speculation there could be
wealth taxes, pension tax riads
and a crack down
on non-doms in the budget.]

Can you guarantee early-released prisoners
won't commit crime, Starmer is asked by
Channel 4 News.
He responds saying the last government
pretended that you could have
"longer and longer sentences",
while not building more prison spaces.
"Here we are without the prison paces
we need," Starmer says.
One of the main ways the government
had to deal with the disorder during
recent riots was making sure offenders
were facing the "full force of the law".
Opening up prison space will take
time, he adds, saying:
"I can't build a prison by Saturday".]

I am already very tired of hearing about the legacy they have been left, after 14 years in opposition they should be well aware of the state of the country? Now get on with the job and stop harking back to 14 years of mis management this has come as a surprise to no one outside of government, not sure why they are so startled by it all
i can see labour being thrown out at the next election. If they raise tax and/or reduce benefits, they will be toast. One of their plans is to raid pensions

I'm not at all pleased at the start that's being made.
I still don't like the winter fuel payment issue
However the OBR and IFS again state it's a terrible legacy inherited which was known admittedly.
I lost count of the times in the election where I stated to potential voters, that the chaos left after 14 years of shambolic government was going to be horrendous.
It's odd how Labour after 8 weeks in power are criticised for pointing out the mess of the Cons over 14 years
The Cons for goodness sake were still going on about the mess they inherited in 2010, still on about it even this year.
I'm unhappy with the government, I and others will moan at conference and point out wrongs.
However there is a massive mess left from even just the last 5 years.
There are hard choices to make.
It seems Starmer will not make the better choices to deal with the mess.
I'll only judge the government though, on where we are at or heading in around 2 to 3 years time
As I did with the Coalition when it came in.
There's no fair comparison that can be made from 14 years of mismanagement after only 2 months barely in government.
i think it's the fact that everyone was saying that labour would need to raise funds somehow to fund their plans and Starmer obfuscated at a minimum on what would come down the road with a labour government. I'm not even saying that the tories wouldn't have done exactly the same, but it's treating the public like fools. In fact, if labour had said upfront that they were going to cut the fuel allowance for pensioners before the election, there is a pretty strong possibility they may not have won

The winter fuel payment was criticised when first brought in by Blair
For being a universal payment.
However we as canvassers for Labour were assured pensioners would be protected.
So I'm still furious that my assurances to the pensioners I talked to have now been discounted.
I actually think however they would have still won.
All I found in the campaign was the majority of voters just wanted the Cons out.
Most realised the certain way to do that was to vote Labour.
It is a sort of unwritten rule, IF as a government you need to do unpopular things
Then do them as early into government as possible.
I still am not happy though that the winter fuel payment issue has arisen.
I don't think it should have been done until ALL entitled to pension credit are getting it.
Pulling this payment now, when even the government admits at least 800,000+ are entitled to it but haven't claimed it
I think is frankly a cruel and wrong policy.

I hear you Joey, but the Labour mantra was vote for change, reset, turn the page, if they are just going to moan about the Tories they may as well be the Tories in disguise, I actually dont know what is going on but it feels like they have decided alot of pensioners will be dead by the time the next election rolls round, I heard some clips today of Starmer and Reeves talking about being crystal clear about not taxing working people, but if they reverse the fuel duty that is exactly what they doing
2 things, Even I knew about the 22b shortfall before the election, so it was no surprise to labour. One of the measures the tories planned to implement was reducing the size of the prison service. Labour knew this before the election and signed up to implementing the same cuts
2nd ... if they inject 22b into the system, it would mean they don't need to implement the cuts, but that would mean all the staffing and space would remain as it is now, there won't be any improvements or increase in capacity.
3rd, now I'm here
Labour just gave away billions in pay rises while my winter fuel allowance is cancelled. They are spending billions re-committing to green targets that we can't blinking afford. It seems they would rather be green and have people in poverty
I always thought Starmer was being sneaky before the election in his choice of words, but in a years time, i bet Sunaks estimate of the tax rises to working people under labour will be proven to be true.
The thing is, I think many people would have accepted tax rises prior to the election, if it meant getting the country back on it's feet. Now after being lied to within 6 weeks of the election, they are going to be very angry, and won't forget

I am really disappointed with the start on some things here.
However I will reserve more judgement on where things are more like 2 years in.
As I did with the coalition.
Far more was introduced by then and far worse than what's being done now.
Although the winter payment change I am dead against.
As far the fuel duty it was cut at a time prices had gone astronomically high by 5p
The price of petrol is now way down to when the fuel duty was cut
I use my car every day, the costs now to do so are extremely lower to just around 2 years ago.
So I myself don't mind the duty to be increased back to where it was.
In fact since this will raise 2 billion a year, I'd rather Reeves doubled the increase.
Then she's virtually got her 20+ billion she needs.
Far better than taking the winter fuel off any pensioners.
Although again I'd rather see that means tested but increased for those who need it.
She hasn't got it through yet unscathed however.
I think she'll be under a lot of pressure to bring more in to have it still paid
I hope she gets a rough ride at conference.
Pension credit is fine as one guide to means testing but so many just miss out and that's why I'm against the winter payment being stopped, for in my view, way too many pensioners who I think should still get it.
It's plain wrong, she is wrong, and needs to be made to listen and look elsewhere for the funding she needs.
For me the real danger of getting selective on who gets the winter payment or indeed other extras put in place before
The danger can be they end up being lost for good.
Some things, especially for pensioners who've contributed anything from 30 to 50 years of their working lives, should be treated as sacrosanct.
For me the winter fuel payment fits that bill.

Or Trump want a Clinton or Obama one staring out at him.
Surely there's an area of Downing street where these personal glorifications of long gone former PMs can be housed.
Not in main work areas.
Even off the staircase too for me for the lot of them.
As few Prime ministers ever really were the most competent or in any way admirable.
In my opinion anyhow.
