More people seem to have their own chargers and because a vast majority of US households are multicar, having fewer chargers is less an issue. Most will just take a separate vehicle for extensive travel.

The bigger issue is in individual states where EV growth would be highest, growth is being stemmied by power grid concerns. Ours is growing well past what is a sustainable rate and we have seen a rate increase to retail rates by at least +33% in order to compensate for the amount of generators pulled off for reserve supply, because the thought is they will be needed to come on if grid conditions sees dangerous conditions in demand.

Texas is focusing heavily on green energy and particularly, battery storage, as a way to help meet the +2-3%/yr demand. Theoretically, if innovations are made successfully there and they are able to drive down the price, say because other grids adopt similar technology. That could bring down the price of EVs to some extent and make them accessible. I am seeing way more solar than EVs here and Tesla is located in town and also further out outside the city where they have their manufacturing.
