However, her tenure at the castle has not been without controversy.

Ms Kane promised to invest in the property and said she wanted to turn the castle into an exclusive members club.

Ardgay and District Community Council opposed her ultimately successful application to Forestry and Land Scotland to purchase three hectares of steeply sloping land on three sides of the castle.

An extraordinary general meeting was held last November to discuss the matter.

In February this year the community council collapsed after four of its five members resigned. Ms Kane was the only remaining community councillor.
