[Sarco suicide pod is used for the
first time as US woman, 64, uses the
capsule to die in Swiss woodland - prompting police
to swoop and detain staff]

Next Time get permission
from the Police.
Pay them to allow the woods to close for half a day etc.
You just push the button (Clever System)
[The 'Sarco' suicide capsule is designed
to allow a person inside to push a button that
injects nitrogen gas into the sealed chamber.
The person is then supposed to fall asleep
and die by suffocation in a few minutes.]

Back in 2021 There 3-D printed death pod
would be ideal any place - they stated then
Anyone a Futurama fan where they have suicide booths on street corners in the 31st century? Seems we're going that way with stuff like this
When people are suicidal the focus is now on enabling them rather than helping them
End stage commercialism. Literally.

I'm sure we'll soon be able to kill ourselves here.
Sold to us as progressive.
But really they are only pushing it because they can't afford to pay pensions and so if you want to die because your life is **** (and you cant afford to heat your home) then go ahead.

Dutch newspaper Volkskrant has reported that police detained one of its photographers who wanted to take pictures of the use of the Sarco.
It said Schaffhausen police had indicated the photographer was being held at a police station but declined to give a further explanation.
…this is just one of the issues with this…we know of ‘suicide sites’ through a recent story and there seems to be a macabre type of voyeurism attaching to ‘assisted suicides’….

Dying in the woods sounds lovely tbh. I wouldn't want a burial, I'd be happy to be scavenged.
I'd be scattered around the forest in poop

Yes, that American Lady paid for that.
But the Company did not tell the Local Police.
So they are in trouble for that.

Everyone should have autonomy over their own.lives. If someone wants to end theirs, it's their business. Dying in the woods by your own hand, by your own choice, sounds peaceful.

Hate to say it but you wouldn’t be talking that way if it was one of your kids and they wanted to kill them selves due to mental illness or being bullied
And they could go off and do it despite you begging them not to.

I think it's a bit reactionary to drag my kids into it.
I'm talking about adults. Obviously.

No not at all kids grow up but they will always be our children
Let’s say for argument sake 18 is considered an adult
No 18 year old should be legally allowed to kill them selves based on their mental health or having a hard time dealing with life

That's pretty depressing if we're supposed to just give up on suicidal people like that by saying 'its their business'
It's not like it's a permanent state of being

I'm not saying that we should give up on people. I'm saying that there comes a point, after intervention, when we need to step back and give a person autonomy over their own lives and decisions.

UK Parliament is going to Debate this again,
with added safeguards.
Spain is also debating.

I completely agree..we bend over backwards for sex changes, so why not this?

Because even adults with mutilated genitals are still alive?
Because even adults with mutilated genitals are still alive?
Freedom of choice though, should be for everything. Especially your own life, imagine being a victim of sa all through childhood, like the kids from children's homes of the 60s 70s and 80s...I know one man who went to such a place, he is one of 3 who have managed to turn thier lives around, the others have all killed themselves. Probably alone, in a dingy drug riddled flat after years and years of mysery and tortured minds..why shouldn't they be allowed to chose a better setting for ending their torment?

I'm guessing most of the people terminating their lives in this way are terminally ill. Who's to say they should live out the final days of their lives in agony or in a terrifying morphine-enhanced delirium? People in these circumstances should be given the right to choose their own end.

Poor sod. I mean, it's not like the care system is fit for purpose these days, it's a bloody shambles at best. Sadly, working class kids aren't vote winners like foreign wars and asylum seekers.

True..
These pods though, they must certainly be for the terminally ill. If not I'm seeing dangerous loopholes, like someone booking it then in the weeks building up to it the go on some sort of sick sore spree of rape and murder knowing full well they will never face the consequences...
Several arrested after woman dies in 'suicide pod'…
Police in Switzerland made multiple arrests after a woman reportedly ended her life using a so-called suicide pod, in apparently the first case of its kind.
Police in the Schaffhausen region said they arrested "several persons" on suspicion of inciting, and aiding and abetting suicide after she died reportedly by using a pod made by the company Sarco on Monday.
While assisted dying is legally protected in some circumstances in Switzerland, it is strictly regulated and the Sarco pod has encountered opposition.
Officers recovered the device and body at the scene.
Warning: Contains distressing content
The company behind the controversial pod says it can be solely operated by the person seeking to end their own life, without medical supervision.
Police said it was used on Monday at a forest hut in the Merishausen area, a sparsely populated part of Switzerland on the German border.
Police said they were tipped off by a law firm about a suicide involving the device. The number of people arrested and their identities were not disclosed. The deceased also was not named.
If you are experiencing any of the issues mentioned in this story you can visit BBC Action Line for a list of websites and helplines that can offer direct help at any time.
In July, a pro-assisted dying group, which promotes the Sarco device, said it anticipated that it would be used for the first time this year.
Advocates say it provides an option not reliant on drugs or doctors, and that it expands access to euthanasia as the portable device can be 3D-printed and assembled at home.
However, there also has been opposition in Switzerland, despite the country having some of the world's most protective laws surrounding assisted dying.
Critics fear the device's modern design glamorises suicide and the fact that it can be operated without medical oversight is concerning.
Assisted dying is illegal in the UK and in most other European countries, but thousands have travelled to Switzerland over the years to end their own lives.

It is a little strange they're not coming out and saying it was homicide and providing a report on her autopsy.
I am all for assisted dying. For example, if I was diagnosed with dementia, I absolutely would want to end my life on my terms before I end up in a state where I don't know anybody and can't navigate life. Awful for anyone involved and I personally wouldn't want any of my family to live through seeing me like that, nor would I want to life through it.
