This has gone on for years
so the residents are free
[It will strengthen our role in safeguarding
global security, shut down any possibility
of the Indian Ocean being used as a
dangerous illegal migration route to the UK,
as well as guaranteeing our
long-term relationship with Mauritius,
a close Commonwealth partner,' he added.
The government said that Diego Garcia has
seen a small number of migrants arrive
and launch asylum claims since 2021.
It said the agreement to give
Mauritius sovereignty 'will shut down any
possibility of the Indian Ocean being used
as a dangerous illegal migration
route to the UK, with Mauritius
taking responsibility
for any future arrivals.']

So Labour get into power and they just start giving away our land?
What kind of pathetic country have we become?

LABOUR is.

And while we're about it, a missed opportunity to send all the migrants there for free.
Can't do that now. Idiot Starmer has gave the islands away. What a plank he is.

Don't be daft this will have been in the pipeline for years and given that the UK and US are retaining rights to military access, it sounds more like a strategic decision than any sort of altruism, which will merely be an added PR convenience.

The governments of Mauritius and China have been increasing their ties in recent years,
with their respective national banks signing a bilateral currency agreement less than a
month ago, a fresh example of enhanced cooperation in the financial field between China
and Africa.

Oh quoting my post twice, aren't I popular. Did you notice this reply you've quoted was in response to Arista saying he wishes to go back to those days? Am I not allowed to respond to him? Or is it just the British who are allowed "bleat"?

The Irish still feel hard done by because of the settlements established by Henry VIII and Cromwell, whereas most people in England recognise that the Romans and Vikings were among the architects of the country.

Of course,
This was done while there was no Parliament.
But those from the Chagos Islands
in the UK have been demanding
this for 10 years.
…excellent for the people of the Chagos Islands, this has been disputed for many years…UK and US have kept jurisdiction of the military base which I guess is their only interest there…whereas for many it’s a home and a life…
