As far as I know, ITV had a contract for 2 series for Big Brother... Does anyone else think that when they renew the format (because they will renew it, gets ITV2 way better ratings than without the show) will they extend the series by a couple weeks? Surely having the same amount of housemates but for longer will work better (or put less in at launch and add more in as they go along).

I’d hope so. If they keep it as an autumn show then they could definitely have it start in September as Love Island is done by August

I really do miss summer BB though. But that’s totally off the cards with ITV2

What they could do is have BB start straight after Love Island???
I think Love Island ended on the Monday this year so they could make it so BB launches the Friday after, which is technically summer even for a part of the series...

Yeah August wouldn’t be too bad. BB just ain’t an autumn show :joker:

Yeah it's weird to have in the Autumn but I'd rather have it than not have it.

Yeah, the contract was for 2 years. I don't see why they wouldn't extend it to 8 weeks+. I'd love if they launched in late April/early May, or in August because watching Big Brother when the sky is dark takes it out of me!
Honestly more concerned it'll be axed given the bad start for the ratings
It's certainly not bringing in enough viewers for them to consider extending it imo

I'm worried about this too.

That's reassuring. Good to know.

They should have started in September ,then maybe they could have had at least a 8 week run or something.

It will most likely still be a fair bit down on last series though unless something changes
BB is a very expensive show to run so it needs to be a worthwhile investment

Last year ITV predicted an average of 1.02m viewers for CONSOLIDATED viewership, and it absolutely smashed it. I think if the series keeps going on the right track, with social media buzz, overnights will increase, and so will consolidated.

Fair enough, hope you're right! I'm still not sure they'd ever extend the series though, sustaining viewer interest over a long period of time can be difficult

I’d love a longer series.. I do worry about it being axed in the future, but I hope not, I’m pretty sure ITV were pretty committed with the show for the long term
