A Labour MP is set to ban all fireworks that are louder than a hairdryer.

Apparently.

That's all I know for now.

they will just import fireworks that have not been safety checked from other countries. People like fireworks and wont be told what to do.

I understand it's terrible for those who have pets, but some things won't be changed, and if laws are forced upon people, there will be revolt in ways they do not expect

…I think it’s louder than a lawnmower……

A Labour MP is pushing for new laws to ban fireworks that are louder than a lawnmower and restrict sales to only licensed shops.

Sarah Owen, a former shadow minister, claimed a change to the rules around fireworks was 'long overdue'.

The Luton North MP pointed to the disruptive effect of fireworks on people trying to sleep, as well as the stress they cause for animals.

…I’d be cool with that ban …I’m not a huge fan of fireworks at all but if they’re going to still be a thing then for me it would be a visual thing only and only organised/special events in non residential areas…

I'm old enough to remember when a ban was placed on everything but organised firework displays. All that happened is that people got their hands on illegal chinese fireworks that were basically explosives, and the number of deaths from fireworks shot up. People were literally blowing their heads off

I hate the things.

They should be just limited to certain dates.
Only sold a few days before those dates, not weeks ahead.

Only for registered organised displays too.
With duration limits of when they are set off too.
My Staffie is traumatised by them.

I'd support this move but there's always ways around these things.
However if some were banned, then you'd be committing a criminal offence having them and setting them off.

I've watched people observing intently people with dogs, to see if they pick up the mess after them.
I'm sure people could easily look out for and report anyone setting off fireworks where they shouldn't be.

I’m sure it’s Australia where fireworks are banned unless you hold a pyrotechnic licence.

Good luck with that Labour , there's times it's nowhere near bonfire night...and idiots are letting off loud fireworks randomly :bored: .

Agree, I would only have them held professionally AND only on certain dates. I enjoy the displays but I'd limit them to two dates (in the UK): the Saturday closest to the 5th of November, and New Years Eve.

Not random other dates, and not all weekend long Friday - Sunday around 5th of November. Just one night (and Saturday seems most sensible).

I guess if they were to do the same in the US they'd have NYE + 4th of July. etc.

Thought I've heard there are states where you can buy guns quite easily... but not fireworks . lol.

Yeah ..

1 a banger gun ( piece of wide metal tubing with one end hammered flat )

2. Lighting a couple then immediately throwing them into a big biscuit tin and standing on top .

3. Lighting then holding onto it for a few seconds before throwing it .. always risky if it had a short fuse ..
( many lost fingers with this option but there was no social media to scare the life out of us so it was something that we still did ..

4 . Lighting and throwing as far and high as possible

Edit

I had a geeky mate who was obsessed with toy soldiers ( metal ones I think) and had battles with them .,

Anyways he cut bangers open and made his own bombs to use on the tiny battlefield

It’s about time something was done about them, I’m a firm believer in them only being allowed for organised displays

Changes would improve the situation.
However a total ban is ridiculous, banning the use of them outside of your garden sits better with me.
A lot of people like a firework display throughout the year for celebration.

There are huge , really expensive ones available nowadays.. they sound like mortar bombs and set off house and car alarms
